After spending 17 days on the sub Antarctic ship, Spirit of Enderby, this room was a godsend. A clean and spacious washroom, a bed with a real mattress and light.......real sunlight!,
The owner was friendly and actually answered questions without making us feel like idiots. I would recommend this bright, spacious, welcome hotel to anyone looking for a place to relax for a night.
The motel looks like a 'standard' motel but the owners/operators add that little extra bit that made it an enjoyable stay. The room decor had been thoughtfully set up with good taste.
The location is handy - close to town - and Omaru main street is well worth a good look to enjoy the old buildings. And of course a visit to the 'little and yellow-eyed' penguin sites is a must.
Motel staff were happy, helpful and efficient. Rooms were warm, with unexpected bonus of underfloor heating. Good positioning on state highway 1, although ~5 min drive from the heritasge district. Despite the distance from the centre of Oamaru, was a good base for expolring the area.
Stayed here one night. The American ex-pat owners have restored this lodge to a very high level. The guest rooms (we saw two) are beautiful as are the common areas. The owners are very proud of the lodge and enthusiastic about explaining its history. Although we did not eat dinner at the lodge (our mistake for not booking it before we arrived) James served us canapés and wine (both of very high quality) and we had an informative conversation about Oamaru and things to do. James made reservations for us and got us tickets to view the penguins returning at dusk. (A must see activity - get premium seating.).
In hindsight we should have stayed at the lodge two nights having dinner there at least once. There is a lot to see in and around Oamaru.
The lodge is pricey but worth it. It's not a place for kids though; the furnishings are too exquisite and without tv they may be too rambunctious.
Very comfortable although a little too far out of town if a tourist.
Friendly helpful staff - gave excellent suggestion for dinner @ the old Post Office.
Gave all info needed to see the penguins return to their colony.

The hotel staff suggested some great ideas and places of things to see and do, they provide us with a great map to get round the town. We visited the Blue Penguin Colony, went arund to another beach to watch the Yellow Eyed penguins come into the beach.
We had a lovely stay in Oamaru!
