“Hidden Gem”

Great location on the edge of a forest on the Buda side (Hilly side) of Budapest on top of the hill overlooking the city below. The Normafa Hotel has a superb restaurant on site with great choice and service, plus a snack bar by the pool. Grounds and pool are immaculate, with a sandy play area for the children. The hotel also offers incredible massages (I highly recommend the sports massage after a run in the forest, a session in the gym plus a swim!!). It also has a steam room and a suana as well as a fully equiped gym including free weights and an aerobic studio. The staff are extremely polite, informative and helpful. A free internet service is available round the clock and there is a laundry service at a very reasonable rate. Unfortunately, rooms are not air conditioned, but a free standing electric fan is provided and the tea/ instant 3-in-1coffee is not the best! A lovely little hotel, that makes you feel you are in a in your own relaxed paradise, Enjoy!!

Area recommendations
Buda for the hills and walks and the spectacular Buda Castle. The centre of town (on the Pest side) near to the river bank for restaurants and sight seeing trips. Don't miss the hop on hop off bus to get a real feel of the history and tremendous sights that you can visit as you hop on and off, or explore again in your own time. The operas house, Heroes square and the baths definately shouldn't be missed!

“Lovely hotel in the Buda Hills, and excellent bus service into town.”

The hotel is in the hills overlooking the city with wonderful views on a clear day, great for walking and only 10 mins to the ski lift, and bus stop outside. Its nice to escape the city into a tranquil location. The hotel breakfast is very good, buffet style with a good selection. The pool and gardens are lovely. If you like to escape the hussle of the city after a long day sightseeing, this is the hotel to stay in.

Area recommendations
The Castle area is wonderfull, with great views. The Jewish getto is a very cheap area to eat with lot's of typical Hungrian resturants.

“Awesome Hotel”

I can't say enough about this hotel and it's location. I didn't want to be in the center of town but sort of "in the country." I do a lot of walking. Although it is really too far to walk to the main "Red" subway station, the bus is on-time and cheap. I walked around around the hotel (maybe 5 kilometers). The houses are beautiful and the landscape varied. Just down the hill from the hotel are two great restaurants. One is a pizza place and the ather is a seafood place. These places are so beautiful. I sat outdoors and watched the people and buses go by. Having been all over Europe, I llked Budapest as much as any of them. There are lots to see and do. The town is especially beautiful at night. The bus/subway system is excellent and make it easy to get around.

There's too much to tell. Just depends on how long you are in Budapest.

“Far from the maddening crowd”

Great hotel on the Normafa hill right on the bus route. Cool country nights and mornings and park with hiking trails next door. Food and drinks a bit over priced but there are other restaurants across the street. Internet service is very slow and intermittent. Front desk staff is the best anywhere. They know everything and help you all the way.

“Nice hotel in the Buda Hills”

I have been to the Normafa on three occasions so I am obviously a bit of a fan. The hotel is a chalet-style property located up in the hills of Buda and is a good 15 minute bus ride away from the town centre on the no. 90/90A bus. The hotel has a couple of restaurants and there are a few more located about 1km down the hill in the nearest small town which are easy to walk to (not so much fun walking back up!) The hotel has a nice outdoor pool area with the pool being heated. Guests can also use the gym/steam room/sauna facilities which are pretty good. Breakfast is of a decent standard with most items being buffet-style with a number of other choices available (at no extra cost) on order. The "country breakfast" is a good option. The rooms are of a decent size and nicely furnished in a rustic rather than modern style. Staff are friendly, helpful and mostly speak good English. The only negatives are the lack of air-con in the bedrooms and that they have ceased providing coffee and cakes for resindents in the afternoons! Overall a good and very reasonably priced place to stay in Budapest - would recommend for famillies and other people looking for a nice quality, calm and quiet break. Probably not the best choice if you are looking to go our clubbing although there is a night bus. PS If eating in the grill restaurant ensure that you have plenty of insect repellant as the rural location encourages the mozzies and they will be as hungry as you are!

Getting around
Public transportation is by far the easiest way to get around the city. If you are staying for a few days then a travel card is a good value option, the more days you have one, the cheaper the daily cost. If you are not planning on doing much travelling around then you can buy books of 10 tickets which are cheaper than individual ones. If you are using the underground ensure that you have a validated ticket/pass as there is a very high probability it will be checked..
What to pack
In summer sunscreen and insect repellant fro the evenings.
Must see
Heroes Square is located just by the main city park which contains a fairground and, best of all the municipal spa baths which are absolutley fantastic. Spend a day there but remember to bring a towel or you will have to hire one. It is not the cheapest thing to do in the city but the facilities are superb with indoor and outdoor thermal pools and baths and a good 45m outdoor pool if you want to do some serious swimming. The complex also has a cafe so you wont go hungry or thirsty. The Basillica and St Margarets church are worth a look, as is the castle. Other places worth a look are Momento Park (full of old Soviet-era statues) and the Terror Museum whichshows just how badly Hungary was treated by the Germans and then by the Communists in the 20th centtury.
Dining
Generally restaurants are good quality and pretty decent value for money. There is a good Indian Restaurant called Indigo just by the Octogon metro station and there is an excellent new steakhouse called Prime in the Mammoth 1 shopping complex just by Moscow Ter. There are any number of good local restaurnts and if you want to sample a range of local specialities then there are good value buffet style restaurants which offer very tasty and varied cuisine.

“Wish we were still there”

We had chosen this hotel after reading other reviews and we weren't disappointed. It is in a peaceful location in the hills of Buda - with a lovely swimming pool and gardens for sunbathing in after a morning of site seeing in the city. A frequent bus service (every 5-10 minutes) from just outside the hotel means the city centre is only about 15-20 minutes away.

“Will go back next year”

Norfama arranged Taxi pick up from airport, Taxi was waiting and we got to Hotel with no problems. Hotel is very nice and staff are friendly and helpful. Swimming Pool is good and in a lovely setting. If you are feeling energetic there is a gym or if not sauna and massage. Transport to town is brilliant, never had to wait more than 2 minutes. If you don't want to go into town there are lots of walks and a Steam railway nearby (Run by chidren) Would recommend this hotel

“Third Visit - Can't Wait To Return Again”

I can find nothing to fault with the hotel or the very friendly and helpful staff. This was my third trip and I am looking forward to staying here again. The hotel is not in the city centre but the 20 minute bus ride is no great hardship. The surrounding Buda Hills are beautiful at any time of year.

“Good value with excelent staff service”

Hotel is a little bit far from the city center, but public transpotation took care of that. Service was perfect. Service desk will go out of their way to satisfy your every request. When we decided to leave real early one morning to catch an early train to Vienna(side trip), hotel staff even prepared an unexpected breakfast bags for me and my wife. That was a wonderful experience. Will go back to Normafa Hotel when in Budapest.
