Mini-break in Budapest

Posted 04-Nov-2014
Pros: Cleanliness of rooms
Cons: A greater variety of fresh fruit at breakfast
Location: Quite near to the castle area, but you need to do a lot of walking. Hotel is very noisy, in spite of good double glazing.
Clean and comfortable hotel. Quite well situated with close access to castle area. One huge downside is the noisy dual carriageway right next to the hotel, but it's hard to avoid the traffic in many parts of the city. There's an excellent Italian restaurant at the hotel - good food and good value for money.

Refurbished hotel in buda

Posted 30-Sep-2014
This was a nice hotel; obviously recently refurbished with new lifts and electronic taps in the rooms. The rooms themselves were very clean and comfortable, with a mini bar should you wish to use it. I experienced no outside noise during my stay as the windows were very good at keeping noise from the busy road outside out and there was some aort of air con to keep the room cool. The restaurant was small but seemed well equipped in terms of menu, although we only had drinks there no food. The breakfast was a small buffet and there aren't many places nearby to get an alternative so it might be required should you have a busy day ahead. The front desk staff were nice, although a little grumpy when I came to pay as I didn't have cash. Overall a nice hotel, however it's not near the night life in Pest. If you want a good base for the castle area, citadel or baths this is a good option.

15 minute walk up to Castle Hill Hilton saves $140

Posted 29-Sep-2014
Pros: Excellent value.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: It's a bit off the beaten track. However, the price and excellent City transportation system gets one to wherever very quickly.
Every bit as good or better than Castle Hill Hilton unless the view is worth $150 more per day. My daughter stayed at the Hilton, so I could compare it. I think the room was as good, the staff was courteous and helpful...just didn't wear the fancy uniforms, and the complementary breakfast might have been better.

Nice enough, but 'wrong side' of the Danube

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Pros: It was very clean.
Cons: Providing facilities later - we arrived at the hotel at 11pm and there was nowhere even to grab a coffee.
Location: The hotel is near the Citadel and Buda Castle, but everything else is on the other side of the river - about a 20 minute walk.
We have just returned from 3 nights at the Gold Hotel. Nothing wrong with it as such : rooms are on the small side, and very basic (no tea/coffee, very little supplied in the bathroom - no tissues for example) which is not what I was expecting from a 4 star hotel. Staff were pleasant enough but be warned if you try to pay anything on credit cards - they are Not Happy!! (We had supplements added because 'the exchange rate was different', and kept pointing us in the direction of the cashpoint across the road! Hotel facilities are basic - bar shuts at 10 and there is no room service available after this - and the hotel is well out of the main city so there is nowhere nearby to go for a drink or snack. But ... hotel is very clean and beds were comfortable. Would I stay here again? No - I would much rather be in Pest where there is much more choice.

Everything we needed.

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Pros: Check in was quick and easy. Nice little fridge to keep our white wine and beer cool. The room was on the second floor facing the side street. it wa
Cons: The restaraunt served Italian which was good, but we can pick that up at Olive Garden. After tasting Hungarian food I would prefer that cuisine.
Location: A 15 min walk up to the Citadel where we caught our 48 hour hop on hop off city tour. Budapest is the cleanest city we have ever seen.
One of our pieces of luggage was held up in Paris. The front desk held it after being delivered from the airport around midnight until we picked it up in the morning. Nice after being up for over 24 hours.

Budapest 2014 - Honeymoon

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: We stayed in the Buda side of Budapest and the hotel was beautiful and where it's located it's a nice walk to get to places. Friendly staff and clean.
Location: Good walk to a small modern shopping centre and to one of the Main Metro stations. Must use one of the maps in hotel. Easy to get around.
My wife and I decided to choose Budapest for our Honeymoon destination as it was recommended as a great place by many people. We can say that this is very true. The week we went was scorching hot, everyday was beautiful and made our experience so much better. It's easy to get around and lots to see. We would highly recommend Budapest to anyone but make sure you have a very good pair of walking and comfortable shoes (and a good camera too!).

Gold Hotel

Posted 30-May-2014
Pros: The bathroom was great. A nice choice for breakfast.
Cons: It would be nice to have tea making facilities. But there is a shop just up the road for drinks etc.
Location: The Citadel monument is just up the hill, but it is a good 10 minute walk with a steep incline ( I would recommend a decent pair of trainers!)
The Gold hotel was lovely, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The walk down to Elizabeth Bridge was a bit steep, but the views were amazing. It is such a beautiful city and the people were nice & polite. The "Bali Café" in Astoria is worth a visit for the great food & "New York Café" for the beautiful interior.

Ideal location.

Posted 28-Apr-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: nothing
Location: Good location with short bus journey into Pest. Walking distance from tourist attractions such as the castle and palace.
Lovely clean hotel with friendly reception staff who were really helpful with information about Buda and Pest. The breakfast offered a good variety of foods and was well-presented and plentiful.

Very good value for money

Posted 19-Apr-2014
Pros: The room was confortable with good beds. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee in the room. We stayed there in April, and the bar or restaurant wasn't open in the evening.
Location: Being close to Buda castle, we took advantage of a very good free guided tour as part of the Budapest card, giving free access to all public transport
We stayed for 4 nights at the Gold Hotel and we're very pleased overall. The staff were very helpful, gave us lots of info, maps, etc... The room was very clean and quiet. The hotel was situated a little way off the commercial centre in Pest, but very convenient for both the Buda Casle area and Gellert Hill. There is a bus stop a few yards away from the hotel with very frequent buses running every 3-5 minutes and a very short ride to Pest centre.
