“Lovely Hotel, not so good smell!!”
This is the second time I have stayed in the Portinari, and the only thing I can complain about really this time is the awful stench that is there most of the day. It's a horrible sewerage smell, and does not make you want to sit in the bar having a drink during the day! Apart from that, great hotel, great location, nice breakfast. I would go back again - even with the smell!!
“A good all round Hotel”
Most impressed, generally, but I would doubt the 4 * rating. No restaurant facilities evident, other than breakfast. Great location, to explore Bruges, and if you travel by car, a large underground car-park opposite the hotel entrance. Friendly, helpful staff, and good clean surroundings, and rooms. Breakfast, buffet style, and fairly good.
“Charming hotel, great location”
We came to Bruges for a small honeymoon, and were delighted with our stay at the Hotel Portinari. It was located only a short walk from the train station (about 10 minutes) and on the western boundary of the old town, about a 10 minutes walk from the centre. Great location with lots of cafes all around. We were delighted to receive a complimentary bottle of champagne upon our arrival. Our room was a moderate size and had a great view of the city. Bathroom was spacious, clean, and modern. A buffet breakfast was included in the price, and it was great - many choices of hot and cold food. We loved Bruges and this hotel!
“Very polite staff, good location.”
I would be happy to return, the hotel is a ten min walk from the station and the check in staff were very quick and polite. I would say there is an arcade park opposite the hotel that may not be everyones taste but it is among a line of restaurants, and a brilliant one just round the corner. The landmarks are all very close too but it is a small place.
“Perfect location”
Wonderful location just a short walk from the train station. Helpful staff and free bottle of fizz in room on arrival. Situated in a busy square, but very quiet in room except for the church bells. Room was very small for the money, but nice. Breakfast was buffet with plenty of options and very good quality. Overall a lovely hotel.
“Would certainly stay there again”
The rooms are a good size, very clean and warm and BBC1, BBC2 and ITV1 are available on the flat screen TV. There is a residents bar on the ground floor and also a large TV lounge on the first floor which is handy if you're travelling in a group. Breakfast is excellent with a good selection of cold meats, cheese, pastries, rolls, bread and also hot bacon, sausages, egg and beans. The location is very good and is only a ten minute walk from the station and the same again to the Market Square. On the map, the hotel looks close to the main road, but don't worry about this as the road goes underground well before it gets to the hotel so there is no road noise.
“Hotel ok but not 4 x star!”
The location of the hotel was great, ideal for the markets and shops etc. The rooms however ,although we had a lovely view over the square were certainly not up to 4 x star standard. There was black mould around the bath corner and the bath plug underside was filthy! It had never been cleaned by the look of it. There were no coffee and tea making facilities in the bedrooms. The breakfast was very good and the kitchen staff very helpful and nice. The lady on reception however ( not the men) was cold and didnt smile once. We didnt complain to her about the room as we were only there three nights but you would have thought we had because of her unfriendliness. Because of the mould in the bathroom and the unfriendliness of the lady on reception ,we would not recommend this hotel to our friends.
“VERY NICE HOTEL IN BRUGES”
WE STAYED IN BRUGES FOR FOUR NIGHTS, IT HAS SOME VERY NICE SIGHTS TO SEE.,A CANAL TRIP IS A MUST ,YOU CAN WALK EVERYWHERE AS IT IS VERY COMPACT.THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS IT IS EXPENSIVE TO EAT OUT
“a good hotel in a very good location”
The hotel is comfortable clean and friendly the location next to the main square is excellent. parking is available in the adjacent underground car park . There are no dedicated parking spaces but it's a very large car park and access from parking to hotel is easy. We were disappointed that the hotel bar was not staffed in the evening (mid June) we were told we could buy a drink but would need to drink it in the lounge, not acceptable in a four star hotel in a bustling city in mid summer. Parking charges june 2010 9+ euros for 24 hours.
“"Not what we expected"”
If you take a walk around Brugger you can find more hotels with the same rates, well located with better lobbys and restaurant . In the other hand the parking lot infront of the hotel was realy good, it only cost 17 euros per day.
