“Elegant and comfortable in ideal location”

We had a wonderful stay in Bruges at the Hotel de Tuilerieen. Our room was very elegant and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only drawback, in common with a lot of European hotels, was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room (so take your own kettle etc) and the cost of breakfast (30 Euros)

“Underwhelmed”

We booked an Executive Room with 4 poster bed only to find that we did not have a 4 poster bed at all and they were all booked out when we asked to change. We would have gone for the cheaper room if we had known this. This is Expedia as much as the hotel though - the information on Expedia sit eis misleading. The reception staff with one exception were not very attentive. The curtains in the room had to be fixed closed with a hair clip as they kept slipping open on the circular window that we had in the room. The breakfast staff were rude, dismissive and unhelpful: we first sat at a table we were told was reserved (no sign on the table) and when we moved and asked for a high chair were told they only had one and it was booked (turned out that baby was in a pram and didn't need the high chair at all). despite the fact you pay 25 Euros each for breakfast. The lift was broken when we were there. The room was 3 star hotel standard. The service was appalling. The building and surrounding are gorgeous but don't stay here. We won't again.

Area recommendations
We would recommend the whole of the old city of Bruges. Easy to get around, beautiful surroundings, wonderful setting. Go visit Bruges, just find another hotel.

“Beautiful Small Hotel”

This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely neighborhood. It is very convenient to the train station (15 minute walk) and all of the sights of the city are only footsteps away. The common areas of this hotel are beautifully decorated and very romantic. My room was lovely, I would even say enchanting. The bathroom was sparkling new and clean. I would not hesitate to stay there again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

“Beautiful, classy, idyllic.”

It doesn't get much better than this. It is a beautiful hotel in every detail, from the charming decor of the rooms to the old world bar and sitting room near the lobby. The location couldn't be better, overlooking one of the canals and walking distance to all of the sights. Very reasonably priced and a great value for your dollar. You won't be disappointed.

Area recommendations
As Bruge is relatively small, most hotels, particularly ours, gives you access to everything you'd be interested in seeing.

“A great little hotel”

Stayed in hotel for 6 nites from the 22 Sept 2011. Arrival and check in very friendly; hotel had given us a 'best' in category upgrade for my wife's birthday. Great room, 4 poster bed huge bathroom and small private courtyard off room where we had coffees each morning. Reception staff gave us a map which they pointed out and marked with where to go, what to avoid (as tourist traps). Location is superb with main ares of interest only minutes away and charming lanes and hidden squares to get lost in are all around. There is a lovely outdoor garden at the back where you can have drinks al fresco - great because there was a heatwave whilst we there with temps of 25 degrees and sunny eavery day. Getting to the hotel is easy; we walked from the rail station; or take a taxi for around 8 euros.

Area recommendations
Alot of people may think that Bruges is over touristed and to be fair, it does get busy on the weekends. But there is so much more than the main squares of Markt and the Belfort square if you take the time to wander off down small canals, streets and the beautiful parks of Koenigsastrid and Minnewaters. Grab a bus - they are frequent and easy to figure out - to see cool, off the beaten track areas to get off and explore. Bruge people are very very friendly, the food is pretty good and overall Bruge is incredibly clean and tidy. It feels safe at night and though it sounds cheesy, this town is a very agreeable one to spend a week or more. To get out of town to small, quaint and quiet village like Damme is only a boat ride away - get the boat from Damspoort, to get there a pretty walk of about 45 mins from the hotel. The boat takes about 30 mins to Damme and is idyllic in gliding past green pastures, lines of trees alongside the canal, windmills and very pretty farmhouses along the way are magic! Damme is famous for bookshops; it has a quaint square, lots of cafes and is worth a day trip.
When to go
Go out of summer season I think to avaoid crowds. We arrive 21 Sept and it was busy but not overwhelming - unitl the weekend day trippers arrive. But then, by evening it was just a nice buzz of people going about. Stay a minimum of 4-5 nites at least. We had 7 days and still did not run out of things to do/see.

“Great location”

This central hotel is lovely, very individual comfortable rooms although mine had no view and the rooms on the 3rd floor had velux windows. The swimming pool is small but big enough to stretch. Breakfast was lovely but overpriced at 25 euro. The staff were charming and helpful.

“Superb comfortable and friendly small hotel”

Part of a group of independently owned small luxury hotels of the world which We have found to be brilliant whenever we have stayed with them, the Hotel De Tuilerieen does exactly what it says, friendly staff, comfortably appointed public areas and luxurious and individually designed guest rooms. The chef is Michelin starred too... The staff looked after us very well during our stay and truly felt like house guests. For the quality it is excellent value and we could not have been happier with our choice.

“Fantastic”

Two of us went to the Hotel de Tuilerieen in April 2011 and the room was absolutely fantastic. It was huge with wooden flooring, a large bathroom and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. There were so many nice touches (like robes and slippers) that it is hard to imagine a better hotel experience in Bruges. The swimming pool is very small but the steam room and sauna makes up for it. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Area recommendations
The canal trip is 6 euros and is a great way to see the whole of Bruges. The brewery tour was fun (they have an hilarious but brilliant tour guide). Other highlights were walking up the belltower, the range of local beers and the cobbled streets (there are more horses than cars). There are some great hidden places to eat (away from the expensive main square). Choco-story was quite poor but funny (they use Playmobile to show how chocolate moved around the globe). Buy a guide book before you come and follow it. Three days was just the right amount.

“Want to move in!!”

Lovely hotel, set in the heart of Bruge. lovely oldy worldy charm, you wake up to the sound of horse and carts passing by the window! we were in a room that was on the ground floor, and was about the size of a 3 bed house! only complaint was it could be slightly noisy early evening, but was silent during the night which is all that matters!

Area recommendations
The whole of Bruge is lovely, and the hotel is litteraly round the corner from the market square which is the hubb of all things in the area. it is also possible to do trips outside of Bruge if your there for a few days. for example Gent is just one stop away. we also did a trip of Flanders Field and Ypres whilst we were there,
Getting there
Like othere travelers we used the Eurostar and used our tickets for the train which saved us a fair bit!
Dining
Try the Chinese just off the market square for good food. Veggie travelers may struggle, but i have found Belguim in general has really improved on there understanding of our diets, and most places do a veggie option, usually veggie lasagne or veggie croque (vegetables or cheese of toast). also try the cafe over the bridge for breakfast- 5 Euro's is alot better that the 30 Euro's the hotel charges! Bruge itself is expensive compared to, say, Brussels, so shop around!
