“A Friendly Welcome in Bruges”

We are just back from a great weekend in Bruges. I was alarmed by previous reviews having already booked the hotel. Hiowever, all these fears were allayed very quickly on arrival. We arrived early Saturday morning off the ferry. It was cold and wet. However, they staff welcomed us warmly, allowed us to check in our bags and offerred us breakfast.(which we paid for in addition but was value for money) It is family hotel with all the staff being very helpful and accommodating. They recommended places to visit and eat and all very enjoyable. The hotel is vey convenient for the centre of Bruges and easily accessible to the ring road in and out of town. The weather improved over the weekend along with the welcome. A thoroughly good weekend and hotel.

Area recommendations
Centre, but I would recommended that people take a walk out through any gate around the City and take a walk along the canal. Being a runner I had a lovely 50min run around the whole of the city. I think a walk west of the city between Smedenpoort and walk south towards Katelijnepoort was the nicer side. You stay in the inner side of he ring road and wander along the canal and side streets. A visit to the De haan brewery is inetresting and refreshing in more ways than one. The roof top views of the City are wonderfull. Enjoy
When to go
May / June - Lovely weather but like Britain effected by North Sea and sea breeze/mist as we experienced . Although whenthe sun is out it gets hot quickly - 34 deg C
Getting there
Easy access from Zeebrugger with ferry link from Hull with P&O North Sea Ferries
Getting around
On foot. Its a very small city ansd you can cross it in 20 mins. A pleasant walk around the perimeter would take about 2.5 hours if that
Must see
Chocolate Story and De Haan Brewery

“Never again!”

Bedroom had no curtain on top half of window so first day of weekend away ruined due to lack of sleep ....awake at 5am (sunrise). Not helped in anyway by the uncomfortable mattresses and pillows. When requesting a change of room we were met with overwhelming unfriendliness but eventually we were led to a new room. The owner made a big issue of changing the bedding in our presence, what a shame they didn't then go on to remove the dirty towels from the previous occupant or hoover up etc. Bathroom was filthy with a very unpredictable shower that sprayed the entire room if not held onto during a shower. The breakfast was a fiasco, never enough coffee or milk and guests could be finished breakfast before supplies were replenished. I appreciated the provision of the breakfast but would have appreciated more if the bread hadn't been frozen when we attempted to eat it. The room was smelly (mould and stale body odour), had clear signs of damp rising up the wall and mould on the hairdryer. All in all having stayed in countless hotels this was the most disappointing ive yet experienced particularly in light of the cost of the room. Had i experienced the same in a hostel for a fifth of the cost then perhaps i wouldn't feel so disgruntled or had such a disappointing weekend away.

“Great Location”

The Hotel is just on the edge of Central Bruges. It has it's own carpark (extra charge but worth it) Hotel is a lovely older building, the rooms are not huge, but more than big enough for a night or 2. The Breakfast buffet is excellent, and the reception staff speak good english. Bonus is you can leave your car in the car park the next day even though you have checked out - great for those catching a later ferry.

Area recommendations
The area from the hotel into the centre of bruges is where we went. The canal trip is fun. Just walking the streets looking at all the chocolate displays was great too. The Beer Wall is amazing too.

“Very good location, free internet and buffet breakfast, creaking floors”

The title says it all. Note: the floors didn't bother us (if we're in bed then no one is walking in the room), and we didn't hear any noise from other rooms or their floors. kids were in the next room but we didn't hear a thing.

Area recommendations
Brugge needs a full day only. But great base to discover the natural reserve, De Haan beach and Fort Napoleon restaurant in the north, and Brussels by train. Hotel reception has a great plan they'll explain over a tourist map of the town.

“Bruges in the snow”

A nice hotel in a very convenient location, extremely close to the main shopping area and attractions. A warm welcome awaited. We were in the family room in the stables which was large enough for the four of us but with curtains drawn the lighting was poor and we had to rely on a torch when searching within the wardrobe etc. With curtains open however the very large windows let in plenty of light. Despite the snow outside the room was always warm and cozy. The one serious criticism we had was there was no access to the internet unless you had your own laptop. This would not normally be an issue other than the adverse weather causing airports and roads to close and serious delays to Eurostar. We had to trek to the sister hotel to use the internet to receive our updates from Eurostar on how our return home was being affected.

“A good place to stay in Brugges”

Stayed here UK Whitsun bank holiday end May 2010 for 2 nights- cannot recommend it enough - reception friendly , room was comfortable and bathroom clean . No noise problems, Breakfast was very good. Hotel displayed special menu for local restaurant 'Petit Maison' - we went there and asked for this menu and received 3 very good courses of food for euro 17. So good we went back next day. Hotel having a car park very useful feature & was happy to pay the 10 euro per day fee in cash. Only a short walk to all of Brugges sites. Will return & hope the euro to pound rate improves by then

“Good hotel for the price paid”

For the price paid, the hotel was great. Very easy to get to by car and own car park which was useful. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, pointed us in the right directions for where to go and where to stay away from. Slightly dissappointed that even though on the itinery it said double room, it was actually a twin room. Other than that, no complaints, had a great time.

“Highly recommendable. That's where I'll go next visit”

Clean and homely atmosphere about the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke extremely good English. Breakfast was good enough to last through till evening meal. Fairly central for most things and a few local pubs just across the road. The only downside was that it was on a busy road but our room was to the back so we weren't bothered that much my traffic noise. Other than that everything else positive.

Traveller's tip
Fairly expensive so you'd need an empty credit card because there's an awful lot of different high street shops selling absolutely goreous stuff you'd just want to buy.

“Perfect”

The hotel was within good location of the town. A short walk from the train station. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They even provided us with a map and pointed out all the interesting places to visit. I would definitely stay in this hotel if I was to visit Bruges again.
