“Comfort and convenience”

We enjoyed our few days at the Bryghia hotel, very comfortable and close to the main square but quiet at night.

“Clean and comfortable - would recommend”

We stayed in Bruges in November 2011. This hotel was a great choice - close to the centre, very clean, comfortable, with a good breakfast. The owners were polite and spoke excellent English. Noise has been commented on before, but I can't say that any noise disturbed us even though our room was by the stairs. Definitely recommended.

“Nice hotel - providing you don't need WIFI”

Nice old style hotel. Brilliant location. Nice Character, no BAR LOL. If you need WIFI forget it, expensive and only in LOBBY. Would I stay again, probablly not because of the WIFI I would rather pay 20 euros more and get free WIFI everywhere. Staff not the all that warm & welcoming, but OK.

“very impressed”

lovely small hotel in old part of bruges right near centre. safe area close to shops and sights. everywhere in walking distance. main bruges train station is 20 mins walk. cosy hotel and comfy bed. huge breakfasts and staff extremely helpful. excellent coffee we would love to go back soon

Area recommendations
generally an expensive city to eat out in but if you stick to nibbling on lovely chocolates, waffles, frites during the day you probably wont need to eat out much. on the plus side you can walk to most places in the city so no need for a lot of travel costs.

“Worth a visit”

The Bryghia hotel is an old building by a canal on the northern side of the old city (but within the Ring Road). The room was small but quite adequate although the in-room safety deposit box was minute and didn't seem too secure. Breakfast was a cold buffet and with sufficient choice to provide a good food base for the day. It was less than a 10 minute walk to the central square, and like all of Old Bruges that we saw the neighbourhood was very clean and seemed safe - even the small alleyways at night. The hotel is run by a husband and wife team who speak good English and are pleasant and helpful.

Area recommendations
Old Bruges is a compact and well preserved medieval city with quite a few historic buildings and a lovely atmosphere. Anywhere within the Ring Road is to be recommended.
Must see
The central square, including the Belfort Tower (366 steps to the top and great views). A tour of the Half Moon brewery preceded by lunch there and drinks afterwards. The Chocolate museum and the Diamond museum (both quite expensive, though). The Groeningemuseum/art gallery had several sections closed in preparation for a forthcoming exhibition but we didn't find out until we were inside. The canal boat ride was enjoyable but short. The horse and buggy ride is a typical tourist rip off and you don't get to see anything that a 2 hour walk wouldn't show you. The wonderful pubs and looking in the window of the chocolate shops (some of the offerings are quite naughty !)
Dining
We had several adequate but not memorable meals. As an aficionado of drinking beer (and Belgian beer is just about the best in the world) I enjoyed the Beer Brasserie Cambrinus - a good selection of beers and quite reasonable food. The Habit restaurant was quite good and is next to the excellent Brugs Beertje pub. Places which are pubs rather than pub restaurants are the ancient Cafe Vlissinghe (which has a lovely beer garden) and the Blues Tapabar - both are only a few minutes' walk from the hotel . Also the more central Staminee de Garre pub which does sandwiches. Portions are generally large so we tended to share. However, a couple of places said that 2 people had to have 2 main courses. Alternatively, that a starter served as a main course had a 5 Euro supplemental charge. Needless to say,we didn't stay to eat after finding out.

“Would go back”

Loved bruge, hotel quirky but staff nice, breakfast continental, cereal, toast, eggs, yoghurts and fruit, suited us. Very good location, room small but clean and towels were renewed even though we were only there for a couple of days. Only complaint I think when booking customers should be advised of national/public holidays, Thursday 21st July turned out to be a holiday , all the shops were closed including ostend where we had intened to go. As we were only there until Friday morning, an early departure and had only arrived late on the Tuesday this was a complete waste of a day, had we been advised would have moved the holiday backward/forward a few days. Would definately go again but would check out holiday dates first.

“Bruges long weekend”

The Hotel was excellently placed for all the attractions of Bruges and was in a quiet situation overlooking a canal. Hotel staff were always helpful and friendly and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and the hotel was clean and beautifully presented. Our room was a reasonable size, comfortable and functional and well priced. Would definitely go back to the same hotel and recommend to others.

Area recommendations
The neighbourhood we were in was well placed. Looking at Bruges it was to the north west direction from the centre

“HOTEL WITH A DIFFERENCE”

Never stayed in a hotel which has such an "old world" style downstairs before. problems. Good communication from the hotel before arrival & very helpful during my stay. Very good selection for breakfast. Only a few minutes walk from the main market square. Good size room & bathroom. Personal safe in room at no extra charge. Small problems were that my room wasn't cleaned until mid afternoon & the sink drain was a little blocked. I reported the blockage but it didn't cause any real problems. Overall, good value for money & I certainly recommend this to others. Bruges is a very picturesque place.

Area recommendations
Where I stayed was ideal. The centre is approximately 20 minutes walk from the railway station.

“Great value and great location”

Very handy to all the main sights of Bruges and on the canals but quiet and away from the traffic. Friendly service from the owners and nothing is any trouble. Spacious comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Great value for money and would definitely stay again.

“Comfortable, quiet, central - highly recommended”

The Hotel Bryghia is really well placed in Bruges, a little away from the busy area, but only 5 minutes walk to the Grand Place, loads of lovely restaurants and bars. Comfortable room, excellent breakfast and friendly service. My little girl was especially impressed with the careful laying out of her bed - they carefully set up her little toy dog on top of the pillow each day !

Area recommendations
check out some of the restaurants on the roads off the main square. A lot are quite expensive, but De Wittenborg is really worth it - we booked early (it was very busy), and they were great with our 5 year old. Main Square is lovely, but there is a great play park at Astrid Konigen park. the trains are great - 15 mins to Ostende and then you can get on a tram up or down the coast - we'd recommend De Haan - a lovely little seaside town.
Dining
De Wittenborg - on one of the streets just north of the main square. Garre - brilliant pub
Outdoors or beach
15 mins on the train and a short walk to the Ostend beach. From there the tram in either direction takes you to miles of lovely sandy beach. Recommend De Haan as a seaside town
