“Friendly staff, not great building”

As the headline says, the staff were friendly, but the hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel (3 at best). The area is nice, but not quite as central as you'd like.

“Good overall - one criticism”

Apart from decor (ghastly dark maroon walls) room spacious with small fridge, a bonus. Staff were dismissive and abrupt when our heating failed, however eventually they did bring us an electric fire.

“Very Happy”

Perfectly nice hotel in a good area. Helpful staff, clean room, all good. Didn't take breakfast there so can't comment on that.

“Good Hotel, Better Location”

We enjoyed our stay in Brugge. The hotel was nice with a bar and breakfast area that had both outside and inside seating. The location was great, just steps from the Minnewater and Lake of Love - then a 5-10 minute walk to the main markt. The staff was helpful and provided a wonderful dinner recommendation at the Maximiliaan ban Oostenrijk. There was wireless internet in the lobby, but I managed to gain access in my room, which was a distance away from the lobby. Some negatives are that the parking is first come, first serve and we did not get a spot. Parking was about 3-5 minutes away and cost 9 euros/night. It wasn't bad, but would have liked to have free parking. Just be sure to drop your bags off before parking the car. Breakfast was not included and cost 9 euros per person. We found breakfast at a bakery across the street for 8 euros total. Also, the shower was strangely angled, so it was difficult to shower. I would say the room was nice, but not spectacular. However, I would recommend this hotel to others, it was quiet, nice staff, and well located.

Area recommendations
I loved the area of this hotel, very close to the Minnewater and Lake of Love and only a 5-10 minute walk from the main plaza.

“Convenient location wit secure parking”

Good location for sights, comfortable hotel with efficient staff. Recommend SatNav to get you to hotel, due to narrow streets and one way system, watch out for the horse drawn carriages!

Dining
Dining in the Tourist Restaurants can be expensive!

“Good hotel”

Good hotel in a quiet location (very convenient for the Railway Station). Staff were friendly and the hotel room was clean. No complaints. Did not have the breakfast so cannot comment on that. I would not consider it to be a 4 star hotel more like a 3 but it is fine for a short break.

“Excellent hotel.”

I stayed 9 days last month (January) and found nothing to criticize except that the computer in the lobby could not connect to the internet. Otherwise, this is a fine establishment, comfortable, clean, quiet and the staff is very helpful and nice.

“Friendly well situated hotel in Bruges”

Bruges is a beautiful walkable city that tends suffering from too many escorted groups wandering around during the day but becomes more peaceful in the evening. The Academia is very well situated close to the Beginhof and within short walking distance from the main museums, other attractions and shops. The hotel does not do meals other than breakfast but is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. The area tends to be lively during the day but quietens down in the evening and is particularly pleasant in the early morining. For self catering there is a large Carrefour about two minutes walk away. A reliable bus to (but not from) the railway station (which is only about ten minutes pleasant walk away) passes the Carrefour every 20 minutes.

Area recommendations
The most important thing about Bruges is that there is so much within a relatively smalll area so it is difficult to specify any particular location because they all merge with one another. The major museums and other buildings are close together and there are numerous restauants and bars scattered around the city so. For peace and quiet the Beginhof and Minnewater cannot be bettered.
When to go
Spring or autumn when Bruges is less crowded.
Getting there
The Eurostar train takes about two hours to reach Brussels and the train to Bruges (listed to Ostende) takes about another hour. Getting from the Eurostar to the intercity station takes less than ten minutes. In the Summer the Bruges trains tend to get very crowded. The London to Brussels Eurostar includes the journies to and from Bruges.
Getting around
Getting around Belgium by train is very easy. For anyone over 65 there are very inexpensive first and second class senior tickets from any one station to another. On the busiest trains it is advisable to pay the extra for a first class ticket. Buses in Belgium are inexpensive, comfortable and reliable.

“Very positive experience”

This is a surprisingly well maintained hotel in the heart of the town, and not far from the train station. The location is great for those who wants to save on taxi. I found only one strange inconvenience: I could not understand how to turn on and off the lights. Everything is made with automatic switches, and it feels sometimes even scary. Internet is in the lobby only, but it's free, and the armchairs are quite comfortable. No other comments, everything was just excellent.

“Very disappointed. Dusty, dirty beddding, smelly room”

Wonderful location, very pleasant reception staff, but all let down by state of room. Could not believe this is standard of a 4* hotel room in Belgium. Stayed 3 nights and because it's a small place found it just long enough to do all the usual sightseeing things.Highly recommend a visit to Bruges, you wont be disappointed, with this beautiful town.
