“A charming and welcome error”
When I was invited to speak at the nearby medical center I was asked to book my room at the Longwood Inn. I was glad I did, even though my hosts meant the Inn at Longwood, which is quite a few blocks closer to Harvard. The Longwood Inn is charming, architecturally lovely, and the staff could not have been nicer. My room was very clean and comfortable, and the amazing management let me check in at 10am because the room was empty (I cannot imagine that they can routinely grant that request). There is a granite-topped communal kitchen where you can prepare your own food. Breakfast is not supplied, but there was a fresh pot of coffee in the morning offered by smiling staff. You could use the stove, refrigerator, or microwave. Drawbacks: my room was on the third floor and there was no elevator; many guests would not be able to lug themselves and their suitcases up 2 flights. Also it is a dark walk home at night through a residential neighborhood and a spooky gulley. Because of that I did not want to venture out alone for a late dinner but I was able to cook myself a snack. I would definitely stay at the Longwood Inn again if I was on business in the Brookline-Harvard medical center area but travelers should understand that it is not in the downtown core.
“great location”
Wonderful house with lots of character. Well maintained clean small rooms. Good parking and great location. Only potential problem is that office is closed at 5 each day. Would recommend this inn.
“quaint Inn in great neigborhood”
Convenient to major hospitals and universities. walking distance to "T" and great restaurants.
“Dave K's Review”
Great location, easy for everything and this is a very relaxed place with friendly, helpful staff that are unobtrusive when not needed. The lunchroom/kitchen area is great and you can bring your own food and drink which some will like and others who prefer a full service offering, will not! This place has a lot of character. If you prefer modern hotels with full facilities, don't stay here. However, if you love charming places that are low key in a beautiful neighborhood where you can come and go as you please then I highly recommend it.
“great place to stay”
Within walking distance of public transportation, shopping, restaurants, Boston University and Fenway park. Nice neighborhood.
“A Hidden Gem”
Lovely building - inside and out. Great location - in the lovely Brookline neighbourhood and within walking distance to a subway station straight into Boston and the birthplace of John F Kennedy. Wish we could have stayed longer. Use of the kitchen / lounge areas etc. is different but works well. Also appreciate the free parking for guests.
“Really nice hotel, wish could stay longer”
This hotel is actually an old house with many rooms. I got a room under the kitchen, so I'm pretty sure it used to be a maid servant's room. Even so, that room was really nice and comfortable, with a wide bathroom and plushy pillows. I arrived at night after more than 20 hours travel across the globe so it was such a huge comfort being in this hotel. There is also a kitchen with utensils we can use and laundry machines. I wish I could stay longer to be able to use these because it would be very convenient. The interior of the hotel was also really pretty. It takes about 15-20 min from downtown Boston, about an hour from Logan airport. This hotel is located a bit of a walk from St. Paul Street stop, and I arrived at night, so it was quite a search to find the hotel. Make sure you have a map ready to overcome this. Pricewise, it is not as expensive as other hotels in Boston especially in downtown area or chain hotels. I would stay in this hotel again if I visited Boston next time.
“Very nice”
The Longwood Inn was an outstanding place to stay. The hotel was much more than expected. The room was better than any hotel room I have stayed in when in Boston before. The room did not have the used look like other hotels I have been in. The hotel had a very "at home" kind of feel, very welcoming and comfortable. The staff were great especially Ronda who was very helpful and friendly. The location is great and quiet yet very close and easy to get downtown. If you are tired of the chain hotels and want to stay in a place that makes you feel like you are at home while away, the Longwood Inn is the place. Looking forward to returning next year.
“Great Room, Great Price, Great Location!”
The Longwood Inn was excellent! It was in an awesome location and was just a really great place to stay. It was very affordable as well, especially for Boston/ Brookline! I would definitely go back!
“Nice B and B for a weekend getaway.”
This was a nice bed and breakfast and fairly close to downtown Boston. I was on a business trip and my stay was abbreviated, but I am sure it would be wonderful for a weekend getaway. I was there after hours for check in and before hours for check out, so I didn't see the front desk manager, but there is a night manager on duty if you need anything. They will leave your room key on a table at the front desk in an envelope for you to pick up if you check in after hours. Parking is on site and off the street so it is very convenient. A kitchen is available as well, should you feel the need to cook a meal or two.
