“Costly and unimpressive - Budget Airline Springs to mind!”
My husband and I recently stayed for the weekend to escape the kids! When we checked in we were greeted by a girl who could speak limited english at best. Our room was hot and stuffy, the size was ok and it was clean to be fair. The first thing they tried to do was flog us entry to the business lounge at a cost of £15 per person per night. Considering we had already paid a fair amount for the room I found this outrageous. 'The Terrace' bar is pretty expensive and has no terrace or outdoor space what so ever. The bar staff were nice enough but the bar itself was uncomfortable and reminded me of a conference lunch area. Breakfast was a complete joke - The one staff member had a face like thunder and an attitude to match. The scrambled eggs quite literally looked and tasted of rubber, the food had all been sat there for at least 30 minutes. When we tried to order kippers and an omellete - we were told it would cost £15 each extra even though breakfast was included in our room! Traffic noise was annoying, it wasnt as close to the town bars and restaurants as it was lead to believe. Its on the outskirts really. All in all we felt like we were 2nd class citizens the whole time and nearly checked out after the first night. We ordered papers and only got one, the check out woman when we left charged the wrong card because she thought she was being clever.. The list is just endless - all I can say is DONT BOTHER!!!
“Great hotel but beware of breakfast!”
Clean, comfortable hotel as I have come to expect from Marriott. Were at wedding on the Glass Boat so great location as only 5 to 10 min walk back. Only downside is that parking is £12.50, however it is right in the centre of Bristol so can't really complain. The only thing that seriously let this hotel down was the truly dreadful breakfast service. Food was fine, service was not. Both us and table next to us ordered tea and coffee, which never arrived. Had to chase it up, and when it did arrive it was warm at best. We decided to hold onto ours, table next door complained, waiter took their tea and coffee away to replace it, and no replacements ever came! So if you are having breakfast here, make sure you have your caffeine fix in the bedroom beforehand or you will struggle!
“Disappointed”
This hotel is certainly at the bottom-end of a four star rating. They lack the attention to detail that i expect from a 4-star. The mini-bar was not stocked at all (nothing), no turn-down service, no free wifi (not only not free, it was expensive), the in-room coffee/tea service was horribly limited and what it did have was substandard quality for a 4-star, and the bathroom supplies were limited to off-brand soap, shampoo and lotion. Other than tissue and TP, nothing else was provided (Q-tips, cotton-balls, etc). The staff's behavior seemed like they were doing us a favor being there; rude actually.
“Way short of four-star”
The hotel was busy but not full. But the staff seemed unable to cope. Ridiculously long queues for breakfast (with some people being palmed off into another room). Had to ask several members of staff for glasses for the fruit juice. The requests seemed to be acknowledged but ignored because everyone was running around like headless chickens (but not acutally clearing and re-setting tables so they could be re-used). When the glasses finally appeared (still steaming hot out of the dishwasher) there weren't enough for the number of people waiting. And then there were no plates to eat your breakfast off. People were reduced to using side plates. We asked for tea for two. We were brought tea for one. One room key only worked intermittently all weekend. Both stopped working before we were due to check out. Talking to the other people in the lengthy queue at reception, we weren't the only ones affected. No explanation or apology from the staff. The "free" wi-fi actually costs £15 a day. Which is a joke, surely. Even at a discounted rate there's no way this represented value for money. If I want slapdash sub-two-star service then I'd rather pay less elsewhere and not feel ripped off. And if I'm travelling on business, even when the company's picking up the bill, I wouldn't go there either. That's a pretty damning indictment on both counts. Definitely to be avoided
“Good value central location”
hotel was in a good location for shops, bars and restaurants and comfortable and good value for money.
“Good location, clean hotel, fantatstic bedding!”
The hotel was in a great location you could walk to both the shopping centres and down to the harbour via the park. The hotel was very quiet at night and Marriott's bedding is really superb. The only complaint was that the air conditioning in our room was not working very well, but that was all and we reported it to reception. Don't eat breakfast at the hotel as there are loads of great places to eat down at the harbour for a lot less. The pool was good, but not very deep in places, so watch your knees!
“not impressed”
Not much to say, is rated 4 star but is more a 3 star hotel. The receptionist are really very friendly made a good impression on arrival. The bed are too small, I stay on 2 double bedroom. The menu at the restaurant is very boring just a lots of meat. A strong advise if you looking for a different restaurant avoid the nearby italian "Piccolino" Is the most unfriendly place I never been, please note I'm Italian myself.
“would def go back if ever in Bristol”
Overall everything was better than expected. Would recommend hotel. Very handy to shops cinema etc
“Very good business experience”
This hotel was quite good. It's fairly central, although it seemed that many things in Bristol were in walking distance. For me, it was barely a 5 min walk to my client's office and as such very well placed. There are a few good places to go to around the hotel. The dinner I had in the hotel restaurant was average, but the breakfast buffet was quite good. The staff were nice and attentive in general. The room was comfortable and well kept throughout the stay. I would recommend this hotel.
“best location for shopping”
Hotle is in the best location for shopping and to the main shopping centre and resturants. It is about a 10 min walk from the harbor and all bars. We went on NYE and went to the Living room which is a very nice bar and resturant. fantastic cocktails and not to pricey. We also went to the martket which is a must see. Bristol town is amazing place if you can walk around and look at the fantastc castles and cathdrels. Only down side was the standard room was a little small and the bed felt tiny compared to the standard roon I stayed in Leicester. Overall i would recomend this to eveyone, familes, couples and girls nights and singles for some alone time. hope this helps
