“A great find”
This hotel is not part of a big chain and all the better for it. It is situated in a beautiful square of very grand buildings, many of which belong to the university which is a stones throw away. Jamies restaurant is the opposite side of the square and there are many other restaurants and bars nearby. The room was a single (as advertised) and adequate for one person with fresh coffee, tea a fruit bowl and sherry all in the room. Parking could be expensive £7/ night in the garage and meters in the square, I stayed on a Sunday and parked outside the hotel all night for free. The staff were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back.
“Worth a repeat visit.”
Both the bed cover and the carpet had stains on them. There was a very full bottle of "liquid" on the table which was probably sherry but this was not labelled as such. Couldn't get into the mini-bar - not a problem for us but.. The room was very well supplied with teas, coffees, fruit and biscuits. Our first night was noisy from a party or something taking place in the bar but this ended at a reasonable hour. Cooked breakfast was not too good but the breakfast bar had a wide selection of choices. The only problem with the breakfast room was the refectory style eating arrangements. Secure parking was a bonus and saved having to look for long term parking with the hotel being in the centre of Bristol.
“Just right”
Charming hotel.
“Great value for the budget conscious traveler!”
Considering this was the least expensive hotel in the area listed on Expedia, I was pleasantly surprised with the facility. The room was smaller than what I'm used to in the States, but it was plenty large enough for one person. There was a desk that worked out well for my laptop, a 23" lcd tv, shower/tub combo, and even a complimentary fruit bowl. If I had to come up with a complaint, there was no in-room safe for my laptop and documents, and the fridge was just a mini bar which isn't very helpful to a long stay guest like I was. I didn't try the in house restaurant but less than a block away there were plenty of sandwich shops and eateries. Within a ten minute walk there were even a couple of grocery stores. The Bristol City Museum which was free admission was only about a four minute walk. The Cabot Circus/Bristol Mall are a mile from the hotel. Taxi ride with Checker Car was under £30 from Bristol Airport to hotel doorstep. I never felt uncomfortable in the area around the hotel, fairly well kept area. I WOULD recommend this hotel, especially to the budget conscious.
“Ideal for the academic traveller”
I was very comfortable there. The double-bedded rooms are very well designed with a good sized desk and good lighting. Fruit ,sherry and a flatscreen TV add to the feeling of comfort and luxe. I had a top floor room (the hotel has a modern lift) and slept very well. The staff were friendly and helpful and my room and bathroom were kept immaculately clean during my week long stay. I'll definitely return!
“Very tired”
The position in the close proximity of the University was the reason for choosing this hotel and in this aspect it wins with flying colours but thats where the satisfaction stopped. The reception area is small and uninviting. The staff were pleasant but the room we were given was down in the basement. It was fairly small and although clean was very tired in the state of its fittings and decor. It was not possible to open the small window so it felt claustrophobic. We did not have the time to investigate the other facilities of the hotel but in view of the cost of the room I would not want to go again.
“"Home away from home"”
This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Reception and restaurant staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, the whole hotel is friendly, well maintained and - including location - very pretty. Walking distance to Clifton Village with its shops and restaurants; a short taxi ride to Temple Meads Station. Breakfast is great! Only one downside: the mattress in my room had seen better days, and wasn't all that comfortable to lie on. However, when I mentioned this in the morning, reception told me that replacements are on their way...
“Chic small hotel”
The Berkeley Square Hotel is very nice, chic and interesting, and the rooms (we were a group of 4 in 4 single rooms) were small but very nice - with one exception; the beds were made up with horrible old blankets. Dirty and revolting. The sheets and other bedlinens were fine but really, isn't it time for duvets? Everything else was really nice and, in particular, the kitchen at this hotel is to be commended.
“Berkeley Square Hotel, reasonable rates for a great location”
This boutique hotel is situated near a centre of activity, but far away not to be bothered by it. It's only a short walk to the hill with beautiful views. The only bad thing is the fact that the heating could not be turned off and thus it was very hot in the room. The complimentary sherry and fruit basket made up some.
