“GOOD HOTEL FOR SHORT STAY”

The Marque was satisfactory for our overnight stay in Brisbane. Staff friendly and polite and check in very quick. Room clean but it is an older hotel so furnishings a bit dated but comfortable, and bathroom small but adequate. Walking distance to restaurants and Southbank precinct.

Area recommendations

Southbank where there are many cafes and shops and entertainment.

“Satisfied”

The restaurant really let this hotel down. The service was poor with no real excuse for it to be this way, they had heaps of staff and few customers!!! The hotel room was fine.

“Clean, comfortable, helpful, and well located”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here very much, despite her having to go to hospital one day. On the day, hotel staff were very helpful, calling an ambulance and then calling me and informing me about the situation. The staff were also very helpful giving directions and looking up information about bus and ferry travel. The room was comfortable and roomy and generally quiet - we had a nice view over the river to Southbank. Location is just two blocks from the Queen St Mall, 2-3 blocks from the botanic gardens, 2-3 blocks from the river and the North Quay RiverCat stop, and 2-5 blocks from the restaurants of the Eagle St Pier and Edward St areas - very easy to get around.

Area recommendations

West end / Boundary St - good prices and groovy area. Edward St and Eagle St areas - terrific restaurants, the latter with lovely river views.

“Would use this hotel again.”

We stayed at the Marque for 3days/3nights in Sept. 2011. It is a very nice hotel, but understand that it is an older hotel and probably needs updating. We arrived on Mon. afternoon and the room was warm. The aircon was broken and needed to be fixed. They sent someone not too long after we reported it and they fixed it. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was fine, but the shower looked as if it could be cleaner. (Some mildew in the corners.) The fridge was stocked and there were snacks, but everything cost $ and it was expensive. We bought food/drink and brought it in. The staff was friendly and for the most part helpful. You can't beat the location of the hotel. It was convenient to everything! You could walk anywhere in the city and we were close to the buses and trains. Considering everything, I would stay there again and recommend it as well. Just remember it is not posh, but it is comfortable. And we were happy with that.

Area recommendations

Would recommend the downtown area of Brisbane. There is a lot to do and see. The Queen's St. Mall is fun and has every shop and food store you could imagine. Definitely ride the City Cat up and down the river. That is a great way to see the city. Also, take a trip to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Well worth the time. You can even get there by bus if you don't have a car.

“Great location, pity about the staff!”

We stayed here due to the location and price, and weren't disappointed with either, relative to other hotels close by. The staff at reception weren't very helpful, didn't mention the free wi-fi, the free local phone calls or the on-site laundry (only when we found it by an accidental lift-stop did we find it, and we have washing to do!!). Also not much use when it came to local sights and tours, so thankfully we'd done our own research before we hit Brisbane!!

Area recommendations

City centre great for shops and everything you'd expect, but head to the South Bank beach and surrounding areas for food and drink - great!

“Tired but great location”

The Marque Hotel is old. bit tired inside but is quiet and in a great location for The Mall, South Bank and riverside walks. There is a free city-loop bus right outside. Found reception staff poorly advised and just didn't know basic info - sometimes even gave incorrect answers. Yes we would recommend it for its VERY convenient location and quietness. Didn't try their food so not comments there. Would stay there again.

Area recommendations

The Mall is interesting for safe shopping/looking and the foodhalls great for cheap snack lunch. The free city loop bus is good for a quick overview of inner city. We enjoyed the SouthBank with pubs and cafes and walks. The 1.5 hour river cruise was very worthwhile -great commentary. We also enjoyed the tour of the Parliament Buildings.

“Convenient and comfortable”

The hotel is conveniently located in the CBD area, and in walking distance to the university (QUT). There are many nice restaurants and shops around. The staff are helpful and friendly. There is also 3 hours of free access to Internet!
