“Another great stay at Quay West Suites.”

We always stay at Quay West Suites when we come to Brisbane to visit my husband's family. We always get a two bedroom premium apartment. There is plenty of space for myself, my husband and our eleven year old son. We also have enough space to entertain friends and relatives. Very convenient to have washer/dryer, kitchenette and balcony. The gym is small but all the equipment works fine. The pool is also small, but well heated and quite charming. The hot tub is nice and warm on chilly days. The food in the restaurant is fine, although the dinner menu is a bit limited. Room service has a more extensive menu, although it does take 30-45 minutes. Very good central location. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Also nice to walk or to rent bikes in the botanical gardens which are just across the street.

“Super central option”

SUper hotel, supoer location, apartment style. Across the street from park, river and walking/biking paths, few blocks from central district. Helpful staff, good food.

“Like having your own apartment with terrific views in a great neighborhood.”

I recently stayed at Quay West Suites with my husband and our ten year old son. We always stay at Quay West Suites when we visit Brisbane. It is like having our own apartment. We always get a two bedroom, which comes with a full kitchen. a washer dryer and a balcony. The view is always lovely. I used the exercise room which is quite nice, though small. The pool was a very nice temperature. Not large, but fine for swimming laps. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi. My only complaint is that room service seemed to take a very long time. That seemed odd to me since the service in the restaurant is quite prompt. The food is very good. The location, right across the street from the Botanical Gardens and just a few blocks from the main shopping mall, cannot be beat. It has never occurred to me to stay anywhere else.

Area recommendations
We go to Brisbane to visit my husband's family. Honestly, I do not think that it is an obvious city for tourists to go when visiting Australia, and I do not think I would recommend it for tourism. When we go to different neighborhoods in Brisbane, it is to visit his family members. Having said that, the two tourist attractions that we have visited are the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where you can hold koalas (or pythons) and feed kangaroos, and also the new contemporary art museum. There is also a go-kart park in Kingston that my son enjoyed. It is set up for kids as well as for adults. The Botanical Gardens are very nice. You can rent bikes there.
When to go
We used to go to Australia at Christmas time. Brisbane is horrible then. Very hot and humid. Going this year in July was a very different experience. Weather is mostly in the 70's, though cooler in the early morning and in the evening. It was the first time that I was actually able to enjoy being there.
Family-friendly activities
At the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, you can hold a koala or a python, and you can feed these cute little kangaroos. Lots of other native Australian creatures as well. Highly recommended for young kids. I first took my son there when he was four years old. There is a go-kart park in Kingston. Set up for kids as well as for adults. Which car they are allowed to drive depends on their age. Cannot remember how old you have to be. Definitely fine for 9 years old and up, though. I seem to remember that the Contemporary Art Museum has a section for kids. You can rent bikes in the Botanical Gardens. Have them with training wheels as well. I seem to remember riding across a bridge to an area where there is an artificial beach that seemed to be quite popular with families.

“A great place to see the city”

I took my wife there last week for a single night romantic get-away. We paid extra for a 17th floor room, with a great view over the river, and large balcony to enjoy it. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants (including Aria), Belgium beer cafe just round the corner. Room was clean, well stocked (the kitchen had everything I needed to cook breakfast with), bed pretty comfortable, staff happy to help and friendly. The only problems were the shower cubicle looked a little dirty (or just tired looking), and parking our ute was a problem since the car park was really small, and obviously designed for smaller, city cars!

Area recommendations
West End - hippy, bohemian corner. CBD - South bank, ferries. Fortitude Valley - China town, clubs, bars - young crowd.

“A Good Buy for a Longer Stay”

I stayed in a one-bedroom suite during my trip to visit my daughter in Brisbane. The hotel was well located just a few blocks from the busier CBD, but in a quieter location. The hotel itself was very quiet, with only 6 suites per floor. The staff was very helpful, offering directions and recommendations for me. My suite had a small kitchen with everything I needed to make breakfast for myself, and I really appreciated the small laundry room within the suite. Nice pool area too. I can't comment on the food, since I never ate there, although breakfast appeared to be pricey. The living area was large enough to host several of my daughters friends for a birthday party. Overall, I was very pleased with the location and the hotel.

Traveller's tip
The local farmer's market at the end of Queen Street on Wednesdays was a great place to buy fresh fruit. The tram system runs well and on-time, but don't expect the conductors to be friendly. There is a 24-hr pancake house just a few blocks away for crepes/pancakes that is worthwhile. The man-made beach at South Bank looked fun if weather is warm.

“Great space, location and view”

Great size of suite as an alternative to a "normal" hotel room. Great views over the botanical gardens and if you're lucky the southbank too. Nicely laid out quiet pool area.

“Comfortable, large rooms”

Generally excellent service, though a little more attention could have been paid to the bathroom. One towel came with a long strand of hair on it, and towels were changed daily despite me hanging up used ones on the towel rails. Apart from that, I couldn't fault the hotel at all.
