“Exellent for one night stay”
I was visiting Brisbane just for a weekend. Hotel is clean and tidy, comfy and equipped with all you need when staying for a night or two. Close to all the commodities of Brisbane CBD, so it was convenient that central train station is close by, ren-a car facilities, shops... cons: pillow is to big- I strained my neck sleeping on it ....but all in all i was happy with the service and location of the hotel.
“Just right for an overnight in Brisbane”
We arrived mid afternoon so only required accommmodation until 9.00 am the following morning when we were to fly out to NZ. The shuttle bus from the airport was good value and put us off across the road. We had some confusion as the name Portal hotel was not what it was called out the front. Once we sorted that out we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and its proximity to the city meant we could walk there and make the most of the rest of that day and tha late night shopping. An apple on our bed was a nice surprise though I did have to ask for a knife tocut it. We also only had one mug for coffee or tea in our room and it took the girl some effort to find us another whcih did have a crack in it. The room was small and a longer stay would have made open cases difficult to get around. We had a dinner and breakfast in the Restaurant both of which were adequate and the service attentive. All in all we enjoyed the quietness and friendliness of the staff.
“Great Location, great hotel.”
Lovely, helpful staff. Short 5 min walk into Queen st. Breakfast at he restuarant was amazing. Disappointed it wasn't open for dinner. Really enjoyed our stay here.
“OK for short stay”
Portal hotel staff were friendly and efficient. The room was very small, but had all the basics. The walls are not well insulated, so noise from other rooms could be heard. Location is close to central station which is handy, but it is a bit of a walk (hilly) to centre of Brisbane. There was a problem with the airconditioning which made the room like a sauna. The staff fixed it when asked, but the same problem occurred again second night. The hallway was cooler than the room and the windows could not be opened. Overall the stay was satisfactory.
“Good stopover”
We spent 2 nights at The Portal to recover from the long flight from the Uk before continuing our travelling around Australia. On arrival which was about 11am there was no problem checking in early & the room was available. Reception staff were more than helpful & always able to answer our questions. Rooms although on the small side were fully equipped and VERY clean. We even had a small balcony which was just big enough for 2! It was just a short walk(5-10mins) to the city & river. We enjoyed our couple days in Brisbane & was nice to come back to the comfort of our room after busy days sightseeing.
“Great boutique hotel”
Stayed at the portal for 3 nights in november 2010. Whilst the rooms arent huge, they are ample enough for a couple. Modern furnishings, and well appointed with all that you would expect. No pool though, which is almost a must for a qld hotel. Great location, only 5 mins walk to central station. 10 mins to queen st mall. The O bar and restaurant is VERY VERY popular on friday and saturday nights, and well worth a drink there...watch for the weekly specials!
“My choice for Brisbane”
Stayed At this great hotel twice and will always stay here when in Brisbane. Its location is close to everything ;the central city , the Valley ,the train station .but its in a quiet st.:staff excellent ;had problem with TV was a blown fuse fixed in seconds.Rooms small but modern .Bed very comfortable. Bathroom good.Elevators with security swipe using door card good security and never had to wait.Breakfast in Restaurant excellent. Found reception staff very freindly always ackowledged you comming and going.Certainly my 4 night stay was ecellent and the rate was very good.
“Its horses for courses”
This is an hotel best suited to weekday visits by businessmen. It is comparatively well priced, clean and welcoming. The adjacent bar/restaurant is more bar than restaurant and is operated independently. It is not open for weekend evening meals and better value for all meals is obtainable nearby. The hotel rooms are relatively small but, on balance, the hotel is fair value. My recommendation would be limited to the business traveller.
“great location”
Hotel staff are excellent, nothing a bother, towels changed night and morning, tea and coffee constantly topped up, room is on the small side but plenty big enough unless you were wanting to entertain, location very convenient for both train station and central queen street mall shopping, would definitely return
“1 nighter”
room was a small box. airconditioning worked only if the 3 other rooms were set on the same settings. Parking price was a bit rich as well they dont mention any parking charges on the website.Apart from that nice clean hotel
