“Ideal business hotel”

Stayed here for a couple of nights on business - everything was fine. Staff were very efficient and courteous. the Gym was great - lots of equipment and the breakfast was pretty good also.

“Best in Western Germany?”

The hotel was wonderful as a family room, with a separate area for our two children and their bed made up especially for them. The little extras such as robes, chocolates on the bed for our young boys, and a delivery of fruit made for a fantastic stay. Being able to turn the TV round so they could see it in their area of the room was also a big plus. The breakfast was very good, although unfortunately they did run out of croissants quite early! However, the service was excellent, swimming pool facility was brilliant, and little touches such as sweets and apples at reception, and staff who went out of their way to assist made it hard to leave when we had to check out. This hotel comes heartily recommended - we shall go back!

Area recommendations

We would strongly recommend the centre of Bremen, with wonderful squares, delightful cafes, and excellent shopping. However, the highlight and best area would be taking a Number 6 tram out to the Universum Science Museum which was an absolute delight for the children (and parents!)

“Disappointing considering its 4 star”

In the main the room was a good size with a good size bathroom with small corner bath. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was of good quality and choice. There were though two issues. Firstly our door lock did not work and the staff were reluctant to fix it. Indeed they did not. Upon return to our room it did not open until the eighth or ninth effort. Once open it was fine for a short while only to become stuck again. A member of staff did investigate but only to try it once we had opened it, and even though it was clearly not great they declined to attempt to fix it claiming it might be the battery. Secondly the rooms are not quiet. You can hear a lot of noise both inside and out. The nearby Star Inn was cheaper and quieter, with little outside noise. Overall no more than 5/10.

Area recommendations

Around the main squares or the old town are wonderful. The train station area is fine if using caution.

When to go

August is quiet and October is very busy. There is a wonderful Christmas like market on in October with many small stalls and a small fair for the children. Beware that Bremen is also a magnet for drinking at this time of year. Great if you want it, not so if you are looking for a quiet time.

“Great location for seeing Bremen and surrounding area”

I chose the hotel because of the close location to the railway station. It's very convenient for exploring Bremen city centre on foot, and getting to the surrounding area by train. Hamburg is just over an hour by train, and the coast just over two hours. Because of the location, the surrounding area is busy and it was noisy at times. Unfortunately the room didn't have air con, so we needed the window open, which meant that it was quite noisy until about 11.30pm. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful; there is an excellent gym with a small swimming pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was fantastic - a range of tasty hot and cold choices. Overall: Great value and a good location - but a bit noisy and no air con in some rooms.

Area recommendations

Old town is great for wandering around, shopping and eating. The Hachez chocolate and sweet shop is a must for chocoholics.

Getting around

If you have a family and are using the trains, ask for the family ticket at the ticket office. Unlimited travel for one day after 9am for 30 Euros (2010 price).

Must see

Glockenspiel in Boettcherstrasse at 5pm.

“Good location for Altstadt”

I booked the 'Best Western Wellness Hotel zur Post' after reading the usual info on the expedia website - everything about this hotel matched up to what i had read. Even though the hotel was located 150 metres from the main train station, usually not the best places to frequent, even this didn't matter, as we were within 2 mins walk from the beautiful 'Altstadt' of Bremen. The hotel staff were very helpful, the rooms large and clean. The patisserie located on the ground floor serves excellent delicacies and the on site gym and swimming pool were fantastic.

Area recommendations

I recommend a visit to the Altstadt, as Bremen has one of the best i have been to. The buildings are beautiful, and it has wonderful areas to just walk around and take in the history of the place.

“Not a four stars hotel”

“Hotel der kurzen Wege”

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Hauptbahnhof. 20 m vom Hotel entfernt Die Tram und Bushaltestellen die einen direkt ins Stadtinnere oder auch zum Flughafen bringen. Wer mit der Bahn kommt , läuft nur ca.30 meter und ist im Hotel. Die Fußgängerzone erreicht man auch zu Fuß in ca. 10 Minuten. Auch der Pkw Nutzer ist im Hotel mit der Hotel eigenen Garage gut aufgehoben. Das Hotelpersonal ist feundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Zimmer sind sauber und geräumig. Die Einrichtung ist zweckmäßig. Eine gewiise hellhörigkeit der Zimmer ist gegeben. Straßen oder Hoflärm war nicht wahrzunehmen. Das Frühstück, welches inclusive war, ist zu empfehlen. Auch dort ist das Peronal freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Bar im Erdgeschoß ist zum Abendtrunk zu empfehlen. Sie ist preiswert und gehört zum Hotel. Dieses Hotel würde bei einem Bremenbesuch jederzeit wieder gebucht werden.
