“Tiny”

This is the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Service was mostly adequate and the price was right. Location on the river near the old town is pretty good. The Indian restaurant on the top floor is quite good (if a little bland, but excellent Dal). You can do better.

“Skip it”

The novelty of staying on a boat was not redeeming enough for Botel Marina. The rooms are small, but this is not a problem. More of a problem was that the toilet seat was unscrewed, light bulbs in our room kept burning out, the A/C was barely functional, the window wouldn't stay closed, and the persistent smell of Indian food (fine at dinner, gross in the morning). The free breakfast was fine, although they only had instant coffee. Staff was polite. The free wifi was handy and the location is quite close to Old Town, but there have to be better options in Bratislava.

“Will stay here again”

I'm a frequent visitor to Bratislava and I decided this trip to go "frugal", choosing to try one of the botels along the main waterfront. The location is good and it is easy to walk to the two main malls along the Danube and the old city. Public transportation is abundant and easily accessible nearby. My room was comfortable, the bathroom a bit of a challenge with a co-located toilet and shower with a curtain. The towels had seen a better day and I will bring a couple of my own next time. The TV was old and small though I never turned it on. My room was not cleaned every day and I easily took care of things myself. Breakfast was included and was basic. Parking is extremely limited in the area and I would not recommended trying to stay at any of the botels while renting a car. The staff was curtious. There is a disco boat docked nearby and a disco operates on the weekends on the botel -- a bit noisy but tolerable (perhaps a summer phenomenon). I did note that many young people and bikers traveling along the Danube stop here -- this type of accomodation is much better than a hostel, for just a few more Euro. Truthfully, in a foreign country, a clean room, private facilities, is all one needs. Overall, given the deal I received through Expedia and the acceptable conditions at Botel Marina and its location, I'm very pleased with my stay. I do not hesitate to recommend Botel Marina for a frugal traveler, noting a bit of preparation and realistic expectations.

Getting there
Fly into Vienna (much cheaper than flying into Bratislava) and then take the hourly bus which runs between Vienna's airport and Bratislava -- there are good signs for the ticket desk in the arrival terminal. The cost of the bus ride was less than the taxi from Bratislava's main bus terminal to my hotel. Use the public transportation system while in Bratislava -- daily tickets are very reasonable and the city's public transportation system is quite robust. Vienna also has nonstop train service between its airport and the downtown area. Before departing Vienna, I checked in at the airport several hours early then took the train to the city center for dinner -- a 16 minute trip.

“Interesting Boat Hotel in Bratislava...”

Clean, efficient and reaonably priced, rooms small and bath smaller! Pleasant Indian restaurant onboard which also serves a good breakfast. The only incident was the "big Bang in the night", when the wake from passing barge tows rocked the boat and slammed it against the huge steel pipes that secure it to the Danube's bank. Be aware of this.

Area recommendations
Small city and generally very pleasant place to visit. Recommend the "Old Town" area near the Castle and Danube River,.

“The Broken Boat”

We stayed for the experience of sleeping on a boat on the Danube and it was ok, but we would not recommend Botel Marina. This place claims to be a 4-star hotel but does not deserve more than 1 star. The quality of the service was very low and the staff not very efficient and could not speak much English. Our towels were old and ripped and were not changed in the morning. Also we had to ask for extra ones because they put only towels for 1 person. The shower had only one knob so to turn on the cold water we had to take the knob off of the hot and place it on the other one. Plus, on both days that we stayed there they run out of hot water after a while so one of us had to take a cold shower. There is a computer in the lobby with free internet but when we approached to use it, it was not connected and the woman at the reception had no idea how to fix the problem, she said a technician could have come only in the morning. Apart from this, the room was as expected (small but clean and with our own bathroom, which was nice and we weren't sure about it) and the free breakfast was all right. The walk to the old town was longer than expected but overall no more than 15 minutes. This place was ok for a night or two and it was a reasonable price considered the location, but for a little bit more money I would recommend to check out the other botels in Bratislava!

“Not a bad little Botel...”

The hotel was just a short walk from downtown and had a great view of the river. The room was clean and cozy but very small. The restaurant/bar was good but none of the lighting worked in the hallways.

Area recommendations
Not sure what the neighborhood was called but on the same side of the river as the botel is where all the action and fun is at!

“Botel Marina: Visit in December (off season)”

The breakfast was a cold buffet (with yogurt). The room was very nice. It was a convenient walking distance from the city center and the staff were very nice.

“Not impressed!!”

I travelled there last weekend with some friends. Before we even entered the reception area the receptionist shot us evil looks. I thought it was going to be like that film "Hostel" and we'd all end up getting killed for bloodsports. And I am not joking. The room itself was ok, however the air con didn't work and it was 32c outside. In fact it was cooler outside than in. Breakfast was pathetic, I don't know why they made the effort to attempt to satisfy us!! Don't stay here, commit a crime & get arrested, you'll probably get a better bed in a police cell!! Bratislava is beautiful though, a really charming place with nice people, shame they don't work at Bates Boatel!!

Traveller's tip
If it's too hot there's an open air swimming pool the other side of the river...

“Bad Breakfast”

The food itself at breakfast tasted fine. However, this was the only hotel we stayed at in all of Europe with no yogurt at breakfast. We saw one of the wait staff preparing to bring a tray of yogurt out to the breakfast bar, but the other waiter yelled at him not to bring the yogurt out, eventhough numerous guests had asked where the yogurt was. They clearly had yogurt, but not for us apparently. We were also removed from our table by the same inconsiderate waiter and told they needed to reserve it. We were in the middle of breakfast and our table was NOT one of the tables with a reserved sign. There were not enough tables in the breakfast area for all the guests to eat, and the wait staff was shooing people away to reserve more tables for groups that never came! Also, be warned: The parking lot for the hotel is on a main street and not under any surveillance by the botel or the city. Your car WILL be broken into if you leave anything in it overnite, even something as small as a phone charger in the glove box. There were no parking garages or safe parking lots anywhere near the botel.

“My six nights at the Botel Marina”

A five star hotel this ain't. But if you like a quirky and convenient place to stay, read on. The small cabin was adeqaute and the en suite was ok too, except one of the taps didnt work and the toilet seat was missing a securing bolt... Breakfast was not quite average but it did, to start the day. Reception service was generally fine, with the staff helpful. The internet WiFi didn't work with my laptop at least. But there was a 'guest computer' in reception which was always available when I needed it. Odd noises at night were not excessively disturbing. The BIG PROBLEM one night was a private party in the downstairs club area. Despite my request to keep the club door shut, the receptionist seemed helpless, as did her waiter colleague, who braved the party's host and apparently got nowhere. By 1.45am I had had enough of the continuous thumping music and went back to reception to complain again. There was no member of management available and might not be until Monday, I was told! No-one who could control and take responsibility. The private party host seemed to have a free hand. The noise must have stopped about 3.00am.Final verdict. For an off-beat and decently comfortable place, it's fine, and the price I paid seems decent value compared with others in Bratislava, but it's not five star. If you are prepared to risk a party being held during your stay, go for it. You might even be invited to join in, if you like that sort of thing.
