“Excellent hotel in the heart of Bratislava”

We were most impressed with the Art Hotel William in Bratislava. It's located in a shopping complex a minute's walk from the Main Square. It's very central location meant we were able to explore the central part of the city on foot easily as well as being able to walk back to the hotel after a dinner out in the evening. We felt very safe and comfortable there. The room and bathroom were a good size and the facilities were great. Breakfast provided us with a range of options and the service was good.

“Hidden Boutique Hotel”

The EA Art William is a hidden boutique hotel within a larger 'mall'. Located within steps from the larger historic area, I would highly suggest this hotel. The Replica Eames Chair and Ottoman in the living space was a great touch, and inspired myself to get my own for the new apartment I'm moving into. Most of the toilet hardware were also of well made brands. The sink was perhaps made out of a solid surface material of either Dupont Corian or LG Hausys HI-MACS, while the the mosaic walls within the toilet are reminiscent of zebra skin. The breakfast was acceptable, but due to us arriving close to 10am, much of the food was quickly disappearing. I would not say that the breakfast was 4* but it was adequate for a hotel of 3* to 3.5* stature. One immediate annoyance was that the free wifi was only available in the lobby, however, free wired connection is available upon your own laptop. Overall: B+ with a definite suggestion.

Area recommendations
Bistro Provence - across from the SAS Radisson, the restaurant was amazingly affordable, and the quality of the food was delicious. For a French provincial restaurant that's located Bratislava, I would say that they did a pretty good job. The restaurant also owns the other two bar (Le Monde) and club (Le Club) that is adjacent to the restaurant. If you were to visit, this is a most visit for a lunch or dinner. We liked it so much we went twice. I had the Risotto with Truffle Mushrooms and dried Tomatoes, and it was wonderful.

“Great location but a mixed bag”

I read the reviews written by other Expedia travelers and so I knew to expect that this hotel was difficult to find - I still missed it. Nonetheless, it is on Laurinska, a great street for visiting the old town. The reception was friendly and quick but then I got to my room and found it had not been cleaned by housekeeping. Sorry, said reception, and they immediately came up with a key to another room, as well as a small bottle of sparkling wine as a token of apology. This was a bigger room but it did not have any towels and a few other housekeeping shortcomings. Again, the receptionist immediately came up with towels. The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet and the shower was clean and worked fine. Breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was adequate, but not special. In summary, I would consider returning for a tourist visit, but probably not for a business visit.

Getting there
If you arrive by train to the main station and plan to go to Stare Mesto, DO NOT use the taxis without first negotiating the fee. They will tell you it is 15 Euros using a meter, but they "fix" the meter to show 15 Euro, no matter what. The correct rate, if you speak Slovak, is about 5 Euros. As an alternative, you can take almost any streetcar for about 50 cents and it will drop you at ulice Laurenska, about a one-minute walk from the front door of the hotel.

“Air conditioning”

Art Hotel William is located in a shopping mall. The lobby is amongst the shops, the rooms are above the shops and the restaurant is in the basement. This is unusual but doesn’t spoil the experience as there is still 24 hour access and the location is very quite. The room was beautifully decorated and was spacious enough. My only complaint is with the air conditioning. It is controlled at the reception and you have to ask them to switch it on. However, they seemed to be in the habit of switching it off after a few hours. This was extremely annoying as we would fall asleep in a cool room and wake up at 2am in a sweat. I asked the staff to leave it on all night but it would always be off by 5am. Breakfast is limited and not really worth the price, especially as there are plenty of places to eat in the vicinity. Bratislava is a great little city and well worth a visit.

“a bratislava gem.fantastic location.exceptional quality of rooms and staff.far better than many top”

simply a fantastic break in a cracking city.very warm welcoming locals a great place for young.old.single.couples,the lively or the laid back.something for all.

Area recommendations
evening stroll along the pathed old town take a left out of the hotel door and everything is easy walking distance.fantastic bars, cafe,s and resteraunts along laurinska street and attached peska and up to the st michaels gate.also very close is the promonade of the danube at front of the famous devlin hotel.take a stroll up to the castle were its worth the meandering climb for the spectacular views.a must is to seek out the charming and funny statues around the old town.like the man pearing out of a manhole or the photographer outside the paparazzi cafe.also a stroll around the many fountains.especially the duck fountain.just along the street is a great cafe selling the tastiest ice cream ever.ive been to prague and tallinn which are fantastic but bratislava is another notch up.
When to go
spring and summer for outside dinning and drinking a must.
Getting there
taxi costs 20 euro,s if you have time get the regular bus no 61 to train station.then tram no 13 to old town.takes half an hour and you get to see more.
Getting around
everythings within easy walking.if you need to travel out a bit further or your hotel is a little bit out of centre.the trams and trolley buses are great and regular.buy a day or 3 day card from hotels or station or tourist info.its a bargain with unlimited travel on local transport and dicount on many activities and food etc.
Dining
melecon cuban resteraunt.also try the many slavac places you,ll be suprised how tasty the local dishes are.they have pics outside and all have dishes written in english as well.

“What a bargain!”

Hotel is exactly how other reviewers have described it - clean, comfortable and modern. The restaurant was being refurbed whilst we were there and alternative arrangements had been made with the Sushi restaurant within the shopping centre for breakfast etc. which was perfectly acceptable. Would have no hestitation in recommending the hotel.

Getting around
The old town is easily explored on foot. If you fancy a trip further afield the train to Vienna runs every hour or so throughout the day. The journey takes about an hour and the train station in Bratislava is reached via the no. 13 tram - remember to buy your ticket at the machine at the bus stop and validate it in the red machine once on board.

“Interesting hotel”

The hotel is within a small shopping centre so this makes it a bit more interesting and also hard to find especially if you are arriving late. I missed it the first time around to be honest. The hotel is loated very near the centre of the old town which makes it an excellent choice for a city break. What I found annoying is the lack of wilreless in the room(s) and the wired connection you had to ask or buy u/p from reception. Not convenient! Also a very poor choice of tv channels, especialy english language ones. The rooms though are fairly large and the bathrooms are very nice and comfortable. Overall good value for money!

“Great Location”

This hotel is in an excellent location for the beautiful old town of Bratislava. Would suggest a taxi as it is very difficult to find. Once there you are able to walk through all the cobbled streets of the old town. Lots of local restaurants and bars - great for people watching! Rooms of a very high standard - breakfast restaurant in basement with very strange decor... but good breakfast buffet. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Traveller's tip
Look out for the cello player in local bars - plays all types of music with guitarist excellent.
