“great location”
great location. Good room for the value. Clean and comfortable.
“Nice place, conveniently located”
I stayed at this place with a friend mine. Rooms are a bit smallish, but clean and conveniently located close to Newbury street and the Prudential center. Overall a very pleasant stay.
“Great location, friendly personnel, decent room”
The hotel is conveniently situated around the corner from Back Bay Station, as well as close to shopping, a number of attractions, and two subway lines. Personnel was friendly and helpful. I did consider the hotel hard to find at first, because on the outside it is only marked as being the YWCA building. But once you know that, it can't be missed.
“Avoid the chains in Boston”
This hotel is unusual in catering for the single traveller who doesn't need 2 large beds or a porter expecting tips. Its location is very good for those who want to catch the train to New York - 5 mins walk from Back Bay station. (It doesn't stop there on the return journey). Downtown is also walkable through Boston Common. It's near Copley Square and Trinity Church and this is a safe part of the city. Eating locally is no problem - large choice of restaurants and cafes. Breakfast also locally available if you don't fancy the place in the hotel. The YWCA is in the same building and shares the reception. This might deter some people, but I didn't see it as a problem. Hotel 140 has electronic keycards which also operate the lift for extra security. My room was very quiet, though small and rather basic in feel. Nevertheless, it had a tv, iron and board, hairdryer and phone.
“Worth a visit”
Very well-located.Staff were friendly, although one person wasn't certain of the location of a restaurant featured in their information. Would revisit if in Boston.
“Hotel 140 in Boston Back Bay”
The hotel is located perfectly in Boston Back Bay area, almost everything can be reached by foot. Parking is close by but relative expensive. The hotel room is not very big but perfect for a weekend trip to Boston.
“I'd go there again if I couldn't afford the Marriott.”
The hotel is 2 minutes from Back Bay station (orange line which can take you to the central area. Hotel 140 is less than 10 minutes from Copley square T stations (green line trains) There's a great farmer's market twice a week in the square. I had a fridge in the room you can stock up on some nice fruit etc. The laundry room was really useful. The hotel is basic but clean with a nice character. The drawbacks are that the staff are inconsistent in their attitute; you never quite know if you're going to be treated in a friendly, warm and efficient manner, or not as so many different staff work at reception. There are no safes in the room so you have request your items from reception every time you want to access them. If the manager is not in the office across the way you have to wait for s/he to return so the staff can fetch them. This can be very tiresome.
“Great value for location”
Unbeatable location in Back Bay just 1 min walk to metro station. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good cafe for cheap enormous breakfasts. Charming building, ex YWCA. Some rooms much better / more modern than others, some single rooms have no window. But overall the best value in the area.
“Hotel 140 August”
I stayed inearly August in the Hotel 140. It is located in the Back Bay area of Boston. It was a business trip so I was there long. I will say it was a nice hotel, with clean rooms, comfortable beds and pleasant staff. Only real problem was trucks going up and down the street late at night and early into the early morning hours. Overall a good experience.
“Good alternative, small bed!”
Hotel is OK. Just OK. Personnel gave good service, and were helpful and corteous. Room was clean but rather small... and the bed TOO small (Double beds should not be the standard for twin rooms anymore!, Queen should is already the standard... so check before OKing the reservation. Besides this, I would return... but for a bigger bed!
