A very nice B&B done in the "Beach Style." New building, great rooms, wonderful management, the food was very well done/presented, and the rooms were reasonably priced. Our only concern was that the bathrooms are not directly connected to the rooms. You had to enter a hallway and the bathroom was the next door; easily overcome with a bathrobe. We will certainly visit again.

Gracious and intelligent staff dealt well with workflow. Good breakfast! and they lent me an umbrella. Wonderful to be staying in a real historic house instead of brick carpeted horror. Walking distance to Harvard Square. Smart people.

I went to Boston on my own, yet staying at Whitman House was like visiting old friends. David and Robert maintain a congenial atmosphere, welcoming and being interested in everything about their guests.
Yes, it is possible to keep to oneself, and they respect that, but I enjoyed talking with them and with their other guests over breakfast and after coming back in the evenings.
The house is comfortable and clean and, most important for me, is in a quiet street. Yet, a five minute walk brings you to the 'T' station, enabling travel all over Boston.
Running a Bed and Breakfast is a financial venture, of course, but David and Robert seem to view it as a lifestyle choice and a learning opportunity for them as they meet guests from all walks of life, and it is this attitude which sets Whitman House in a class of it's own, above the rest.
Congratulations to both of them!!

I had high hopes for this hotel based on location, photos and reviews. My actual experience greatly exceeded the hope. The room was gigantic and beautiful. The common spaces were comfortable and equally magnificent. Classic period detailing in the furnishings and woodwork, a large comfortable bathroom, and clean.
What you give up are the following: no tv, no on site parking (parking in public lot three tenths of a mile away), no lobby, and no room service. My wife and I didn't miss any of those things and loved this place. We will use it in the future.

We loved our stay at this funky and comfy Victorian bed and bagel. Decor reminiscent of the 20's and the comforts of home, including cookies and fruit available all day and a help-yourself kitchen. The inn keepers suggested restaurants in walking distance and provided written directions along with the room key. We especially enjoyed this walkable neighborhood with easily accessible Brookline shops and sites and a T-stop into downtown Boston near at hand.

I loved this hotel. It's a renovated old building made into hotel rooms. The room we stayed in was on the top floor which made for a tiring trip when we'd leave or come back (there is no elevator), but the view was great and I would sit on the roof patio every evening which our unit had easy access to. There was a small kitchen in the unit consisting of a oven/stove, sink, refrigerator, and utensils, cups, etc. There was a living room and bed room, which I also love because sometimes someone wants to go to sleep before the other one. The TV was a big flat screen, and the furniture was modern looking. The floors were hardwood, and the bathroom was small but fine. I'd stay here again - definitely. One of my favorite hotels I've stayed in.
