the first impression of landing in Bulgaria was ..... er........ what on earth have we booked lol. it looked very dated.
the travelling to the borovets resort was an experience, like some other countries aroud the world, some of them have no road sense! certainly I would pre book a transfer, not a rental. once safely at the resort, the food is reasonably priced and the activities in my opinion were very cheap and you get a lot for your money. however general shampoo etc aint cheap! the borovets area was extremely beautiful and the smell of log fires and outside cooking everywhere in the snow and around the snow topped pine trees was picturesque! the taxis will try to fleece you lol so have your hotel book one as ours did and they were very reasonable. people are very friendly but sometimes as they were with my wife, a bit over friendly. making comments and starring. rude sometimes but some were just being cheeky and paying compliments but after a few days it got a bit annoying. we didn't go into town at night for this reason but to be honest once you've been skiing all day you didn't want to. we did go once and it was ok. better if there is a group of you as less intimidating and im not one to be intimidated but in a country you don't know you have to play safe. most of them are harmless but my wife wanted to go into smakov 10 mins down road into a another town for cheap shopping and we didn't feel very comfortable. stay on your resort area, its massive and loads to do!

It's our 4th time staying in Rila Hotel. 2 min walk to the Lift chair, restaurants and 24/7 clinic. Need to say that they have improved most of their facilities. Last year the pool was colder than outside (around +3C). This year we have enjoyed the pool most of the time. Clean, large area, and hot! The food quality has improved too, but not a great choice. On the other hand there are a lot of places to eat across the road. I would suggest Bulgari. Brilliant food, great waitresses, affordable prices (although there are pretty the same everywhere). The room are a bit outdated, but large enough. Try to get a room looking to the slopes, brilliant view! The hotel has got its own Ski Depe, so I would advice NOT to go to Boro Sport Ski Depo 2 on your first day if you are staying in Rila. You will waste half of your day queuing in order to rent the Ski equipment. The wifi is free but only in the hotel Lobby - really weak signal, especially in the evenings!!! But overall its a nice

The hotel is amazing, staff are great, but would be unfair to say that they are only in the hotel; bulgarians are happy, cheerfull and helpfull people in general.
Spa is fantastic and free for guests...
Internet works at full strengh anywhere in the hotel...
Transfer from Sofia is available and Shuttle to the ski station works very well
The only minor down side is the location which despite of been in a great area, in winter can be a little problem because Borovets village ends up not been a walking distance destination for a dinner out...
We were two couples so sharing 10levas (£5) each way was never a problem...
But still if you have a full board deal or feel like, the hotel's restaurant definitely deserves a thumbs up!!!!
