“Great one nighter”

Good for one night, next to main railway station. 5 min. Tram ride to center. Small room but very clean. Breakfast expensive.

“Not Impressed”

The service was fine, but the hotel itself was very old and not that well maintained. I booked it b/c it had high ratings on trip advisor, but i honestly cannot say i understand where those reviewers were coming from. In terms of location, it is right next to the train, but far from the city center (i.e. anywhere you'd want to be). The walk to the city center takes you through some not so nice neighborhoods. Also, the area around the train station/hotel is not exactly nice. The hotel itself: our room smelled very musty/like a dog and was certainly not overly clean. The bathroom had a very old-fashioned shower, and the hotel linens seemed very old. I couldn't recommend staying here. I suppose it is relatively cheap, but I am sure you can find something better for the same price, if not cheaper.

Outside of the city, near the vineyards. Was not at all impressed with the city of Bordeaux.

“More than adequate”

I needed a hotel to stop off at while driving from Spain to the UK. It was more than adequate except that the parking needed to be pre-booked. Very clean and well kept; friendly staff, reasonable breakfast.

“Nice hotel in Bordeaux”

The Best Western Royal Saint Jean is located close to the main railway station, it's convienient for the airport shuttle and the Bordeaux Tram is close by. Can't fault this hotel and breakfast was excellent.

“Clean, comfortable and convenient”

A recently and fully renovated hotel near the Bordeaux train station. The area is a bit rough but safe due to constant traffic as there are lots of restaurants and other hotels in the area as well as train passengers coming and going. The hotel is clean, has pleasant staff and is quiet despite the outside noise. The rooms are very well maintained and for each evening we came back from touring, the room was always in top shape: clean towels, coffee, bed made, etc. We got our wake-up calls on time and after arranging for a very early taxi, it arrived on time. It is near the tram and train stations so finding a good restaurant, shopping areas or going on a city tour is a snap. The hotel also has parking (at a cost of 10 Euro a day) and the streets are not as congested as they may be closer to down-town. Can't even think of a thing to complain about.

Area recommendations

Bordeaux has it all, just go and enjoy it.

Traveller's tip

Flying on a Friday evening should be avoided if at all possible. Line-ups are crazy and making connecting flights will blow short fuses, even longer fuses will blow for that matter. Allow more time between flights, stay with one carrier and use smaller airports if you have that option. (Ottawa versus Toronto for example)

“Conveniently located close to St. Jean railway station”

The hotel is conveniently located. Whether you come to Bordeaux by rail or fly in with bus shuttle to city center, you are only minutes away from the St. Jean railway station/depot. The room is clean, and staff was helpful, especially when they provide a local city map, which is a plus.

Traveller's tip

There are some dodgy areas if you explore the neighborhood a bit more, especially in the night time. Just like any other city, it's relatively safe, as long as you don't flash your valuables around, you should be fine without causing any undesired attentions.
