“Nice hotel in a great location.”
Very nice hotel right in the city centre. Parking is about three mins away in the underground public car park. Rooms on the small side as is the norm in France. Ideal location for wandering around all areas of the city. If arriving by car it's easier to get the sat nav to take you to the city centre underground car park and walk to the hotel as it's difficult to drive to first time.
“Good value for money”
This is a very good hotel centrally located in Bordeaux. The hotel is situated close to shopping, transport and 5-10 minute walk to numerous restaurants around town. Reception staff were exceptional and nothing was an issue. Rooms are clean and comfortable - not 5 star, but quite good.
“May go back”
We booked 2 rooms, my room was OK, feel very comfortable, but the other one got bad smell. Breakfast was very simple, not too many choice, anyway its a 3 star hotel, and has good location, easy to catch bus to and from airport, only euro1.4 per person, cheaper than taking jetbus cast euro7.00.
“Small but nice”
My wife and I stayed for three nights during July 2011. This is a very nicely refurbished boutique hotel. The rooms are very small by American standards but typical for refurbished French three star hotels. It is well located for the main pedestrian areas of Bordeaux. The breakfast buffet has a nice selection for a continental breakfast, including cold cuts and cheeses. If you are driving, call ahead for directions. The hotel is within the pedestrian zone and you need to learn how to get your car to the hotel to drop off luggage, and where you can park the car - at the nearby Grands Hommes garage which will cost 19 euro per day. The staff was very friendly, helpful and spoke English.
“Dreadful place, very difficult to access with a car”
Hated this place; Took us forever to find our way in with a car as we were traveling and this neighborhood is closed to private cars. Then wasted a further hour after depositing bags getting lost trying to find the "nearby" parking garage. The only good point is when you are finally there; the location is central for everything. The rooms are just gross, ancient carpets, crappy bed, lumpy pillows and bath towels smell of vinegar. A/C barely works. All lighting is low-voltage energy saving which casts a creepy light over everything. One cramped and creaky elevator. You can do better!
“Great hotel in a great location”
Lovely hotel right in the heart of the old town. It's on a quiet side street but heading in either direction out of the hotel takes you to the main shopping boulevards. There are also a number of nice restaurants and cafes within a short walking distance. Hotel itself is very charming and the staff very helpful. The rooms are slightly on the small side but fine for single occupancy - might recommend going for one of the higher class of rooms if you are a couple. All in all a great hotel and I would recommend to anyone.
“Get A Bordeaux Map Beforehand”
The hotel was difficult to find as I had no map of Bordeaux upon arrival downtown by JetBus, thus I went hundreds of yards in the wrong direction dragging my heavy suitcase along. I went through a shopping mall, later identified as Grands Hommes. I finally asked a shopkeeper. I does not help that there is another Grand Hotel across from the Grande Theatre and that its direction sign pointed me there. The Grand Hotel Francais where I stayed (Rue du Temple, short side street) had a pleasant room for me and the breakfast was very varied and good. I was too busy during the daytime to take offense that my room's window opened to a court inside the hotel, but one with a different view window would probably make sense to other travellers. The ladies at the desk gave me the wrong directions twice when I asked them to point me again to the shopping mall that I described as having entrances from two streets that continued on either side of the mall. This was important to me as the hotel does not serve any other meals than breakfast. Also everything is closed Sundays. Departure by JetBus impossible, could not find bus stop at Place Gambetta. Finally got on the local airport bus which arrived late but the Air France personnel got me on the next plane to Paris Orly even though my ticket was non-refundable. Very grateful for that. Cheers to AIR FRANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Hotel not amazing, but great location”
We stayed at the Best Western Grand Hotel Francais for three nights - for the price, the hotel is pretty basic. The rooms are very small, but the location of the hotel is fantastic. It's right in the middle of the old town, and very hand for shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. The breakfast room is very small too, with not nearly enough seating for the number of guests staying in the hotel. The first morning we went down just before breakfast finished and weren't able to get a table or find any cutlery! Other days going down earlier though we had no problem. Overall I'd say the hotel is pretty basic in terms of facilities, but has all we needed for a short city break. The best thing about it is the location.
“Great location for a Bordeaux stay”
We were pleasantly surprised by our stay. The location was excellent ... only a five-minute walk to the center of everything and the staff couldn't have been nicer! They even arranged for a private wine tour of St. Emilion and surroundings! We would highly recommend this hotel.
“Excellent Location & Comfortable.”
We stayed there for 4 nights and we would for sure come back again next time. Hotel is located centrally in the Bordeaux town centre where you can have the access to most of the transportation; airport bus, tramway, other bus to wine area. Restaurants, shops and tourism information are all nearby within walking distance. Room is in good size and with new renovation no long ago. Bed is comfortable and bath room is very clean and well kept. You can have free internet throughout the hotel just ask the front desk for the code. You can find tons of information at the lobby for restaurant and vinyard for Chateaux visits. Breakfast is available but of course is extra, if not you can have breakfast nearby and there is a supermarket in 5 mins walk. For those who travel on public transport to and from the airport, this is a number one choice hotel. Just take the Line 1 from airport and will bring you to the hotel within 2 mins walking distance. We loved this hotel and will stay again if we come to Bordeaux next year.
