“Extremely Disappointing”

Our first room was not impressive at all. One of the pillow shams had a large burn mark (which at first glance looked as if someone had thrown up on it) and the toilet would not flush (there was no water in the tank). We asked to be moved to another room which was cleaner but still small and dark (lighting in the rooms is horrible). After we were settled for the night, there were college kids running up and down the parking lot until almost 2:00 am. (There is no one on desk duty during the night so we just had to deal with it.) The (day) hotel staff were apologetic and tried to be helpful but there was obviously not a lot they could do. I was told upon checkout that the General Manager would contact me but have yet to hear from her. We would have been much better off at the Holiday Inn Express which is also probably cheaper.

“great location, bathrooms too small, nice breakfast buffet - would go back!”

Love downtown Blowing Rock and hadnot stayed at this property before - would go back on another visit.

“We'll be back!”

We had always wanted to stay in downtown Blowing Rock and this was our first experience. We weren't disappointed. Hillwinds Inn is so nice. We stayed in one of the "motel" room. The staff at the office were so helpful. The room was so comfortable. It was like staying in a cozy little cottage. We arrived late and needed a warm meal and weren't disappointed in the Blowing Rock Grille. We ate outside in the evening air and it was wonderful. The continental breakfast at the office was very good. Everything was perfect. We will definitely go back and hope to rent one of the cottages.

The Main Street Blowing Rock is a beautiful place. Such quaint peronality

“Clean but dated”

This is a cute old fashioned motel that actually has real keys for the doors. It was very clean but our room could have used some paint touch ups. The bathroom was exactly as described by another reviewer, very dark in the shower. It definitlely could have used some more lighting. It is walking distance to many cute shops and a park which is nice. I did have to laugh at the view out of the back window - a large fence. The free breakfast worked for us, there was something for everyone.

“Nice hotel”

Looks like a motel from the outside, but it's nicely decorated inside. Good service, and breakfast was very good.

“Nice break from the chains”

The hotel looked like a typical motel from the 80's from the outside. However the rooms were very large, the beds comfy, and there were nice amenities. The bathroom was very small though and once you closed the lovely country style shower curtains the shower was dark. The lady who checked us in did everything. She helped us get our key to work - there was a trick - she changed lightbulbs in the room next to ours, she acted as a concierge about places to go in the area, she prepared the evening social hour and breakfast the next morning. All in all I would definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations
The blue Ridge Parway. It is absolutely breath taking!

“Pet friendly - close to park, shops, dining!”

Had a FABULOUS time at Hillwinds! The place is pet friendly, IN town, close to all the shops and restaurants. Staff is great - wine and cheese was a nice touch at check-in; breakfast was above-and-beyond expectations. Place has been remodeled and is freshly painted/decorated - in short - we'll be back!

“Mountain Getaway !!”

Beautiful location. Convenient to all local attractions. Once there you can park the car and walk to all of Blowing Rock's wonderful establishments. Shout out to Knights on Main for its culinary wonderfulness !! Hillwinds Inn is a lovely place to stay, quiet location with lots to offer to budget conscious travelers. I will stay there again for sure.
