“Great hotel with terrific staff!”

This Hotel made us feel like family. We were helped with our many questions. The buffet was excellent. The location was good for Bologna and also nearby towns like Remini ,Verona, and Florence by train. The happy hour at the end of the day at the Hotel really hit the spot. Tasty treats and excellent wine.

Area recommendations
Old town and the University . Very pleasant to walk around and soak up the history of this wonderful city.
When to go
Early October . Fewer tourists and the weather is good.
Getting around
The city bus system is great for Bologna. Get the information you need from the Tourist Office old town square. The trains are reasonable (I recommend a rail pass)they run frequently .You can easily visit Verona ,Florence , Remini and other towns in and hour or less via train.
Must see
The University , old town , the towers and the central square in Bologna .

“Convenient when attending the trade show”

Front desk was somewhat helpful with information when we checked in. Tour maps were not available on the 1st request, but she found one on the 2nd request and when I became irate. Change was not available for public transportation. The menu at the restaurant was very limited, service was very slow. The morning breakfast had more choices, service was much better. When they had different staff at the front desk during the week, service was much better. The hotel provides a shuttle to the fair grounds when there is a major tradeshow.

Area recommendations
The bus stops in front of the hotel, only 1 euro to the center of town, very convenient location. There are some services nearby, etc. restaurant, small convenience stores.

“Nice base for travel”

The hotel Ramada Encore Bologna is a modern, well run hotel situated on the outskirts of Bologna. Easy access into Bologna via the local bus service (No.25) with a stop right outside the hotel. We had 2 rooms which were finished to a very good standard with the bathrooms especially nice. All staff were mainly very nice and also very helpful. We stayed bed and breakfast with the breakfast being reasonable, consisting of fruit, yoghurts, cereals, cakes, bread rolls cold meats and cheese, along with bacon (pancetta) and eggs (scrambled). My only gripe was that if you got down late items were not replenished but overall the breakfast was satifactory. We had a problem with the air-con in our room and the staff were very good and gave us a new room without question. All in all I would stay there again (although not in Biologna in August) - we used it as a base to travel around, taking in Rome, Florence, Venice, Rimini and Modena. The bus stops directly outside the train station!

Area recommendations
OK. Bologna. In August. Very very quiet. We booked 10 days with the intention of travelling to Rome, Venice and Florence, but also ended up going to Rimini and Modena because Bologna was very quiet. We were warned this may happen so we cant grumble. Towards the end of the holiday the city started to liven up and we could start to see it as it normally is. The Piazza Maggiore is the centre of activity and is very beautiful. The main shopping areas are Via Ugo Bassi and Via Dell'Independenza with an indoor food market just off Ugo Bassi all days bar Sunday (mornings). The food is very nice but be warned - most restaurants want a cover charge AND service charge which we find very wrong - why should you pay to give someone your custom, and if the service is good I will tip anyway? We found a lovely cafe/bar on Via Dell'Independenza on the left hand side as you walk south towards Maggiore - cant remember the name but salads to die for and lovely pastries - all displayed for you to pick. Found a great bar/pub called The Bounty on Via Delle Moline - geat food, geat beer (including the ultimate 'Steins' (1 Litre of beer!) and great cocktails. The lunch menu is great value and there is NO cover/service charge. Quick review of other cities: Venive - magnificent, Rome - awesome, Florence - very nice but it rained all day. Rimini - lovely beach. Modena - it was even quieter than Bologna! Overall we had a geat holiday, would go back to Bologna but not in July/August and only for a day.

“Very good hotel!”

Everything was great! The room was always nice and clean. They also have a good breakfast (buffet)! The only issue that I had was with my phone, because couldn't connect to their wireless network (wifi), but found out that it was my phone, so make sure that you get the latest (windows mobil) updates on your phone before traveling to Europe!

Area recommendations
Well, the hotel sorroundings don't offer much to see, so go to the town, visit the university, which is one of the oldest in Europe or even in the whole world. Also don't forget to ask where a tower is, to see the town from above!

“Not really impressed”

Service in the reception was good, she really helpful. The room need abit more facility such as walldrawer, dressing table mirror and clock. The restaurant service in the evening was very bad. All for that, everything was alright.. But don't think will going back again.

“Good location between the exhibition centre and town centre”

No attractions next to the hotel but good location to visit near by exhibition fair and the town centre is a short taxi ride (about 15 EUR) Comfortable hotel and very good value for money. Excellent "wet room" style shower. Good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice.

“Great modern hotel a short bus ride from city center”

Very modern hotel (wifi, flat screen tv, etc.) that is just a bus ride to city center. The staff was very helpful - they help us set up cabs and gave great recommendations for things to do. Wonderful complementary breakfast.

“Not bad”

We had never been to Bologna before so we booked this hotel some what blind. The hotel is a couple of miles out of the town centre and situated in a industrial estate area, but there is a shop and pizza place a 5 minute walk away. There are is a regular bus (number 25) with a stop right outside the hotel. It was handy, but meant we had to take the bus every time we went out as the walk would have taken us through a not very pleasant area. The hotel itself is modern and clean and tidy. We found the staff to be helpful especially the bar staff who were very friendly. The breakfast is very good offering cereal, pastries, meats, cheese and scrambled eggs along with fresh fruit with various coffees from a machine. There is nothing to eat during the day until 19:30 where there is a limited menu available, but I suspect that food is microwaved. We booked a cheap room and that showed as it felt like we'd been placed in a broom cupboard, but despite that it was cleaned daily and the facilities were ok.

Traveller's tip
Visit Piazza Maggiore, you can get there using the 25 bus. It's a beautiful square with a wonderful restaurant just off the square called 051. There is also a tourist information office there and a train ticket office very near too.
