“Good quality friendly hotel”
The hotel was very easy to find, only 11 minutes from the station. Good room and the balcony gave us a bit of extra space. Excellent breakfast (6 Euros extra) Reception very helpful with good accurate advice on bus routes for trips and booked a taxi for us when we visited the Ducati factory. Bologna was easy to get around with frequent and cheap bus service
“Comfortable stay at good price”
Stayed at the Guercino for five nights and the experience was overall a very positive one. 10 minutes walk from the station and slightly out of centre meant more room for less money. The area felt very safe and was quiet. All reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our standard double room provided an enormous and very comfortable bed, something like super King size, and the air-conditioning worked faultlessly. It was very hot in Bologna! Spacious shower room and toilet and bidet. All spotlessly clean. The decor (very soothing) looked very new. Only gripes - the room bar/fridge was not plugged in and the empty tissue box was not replaced. But these are very minor quibbles indeed. Would certainly stay there again. For those who might baulk at a longer walk into the centre there are two bus lines taking them there.
“A gem of a hotel”
Great hotel - a building with some character and quite a contrast from the buildings that surround it. Lovely art on the walls throughout the hotel, which is bright and airy. The staff spoke superb English and were friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small but we had everything we needed, including a kettle, cups and tea which was a surprise. The buffet breakfast was wonderful, generous and lots of choice.
“Excellent Hotel - Superb Price”
We stayed at Il Guercino for 2 nights and it was the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in, in Italy. The fact that we paid the same price for 2 nights her as we paid for 1 night in Florence and Pisa on our other stops made it even more impressive. It is a short (5 minute) bus ride from Central Bologna, and the buses are regular and can be caught round the corner from the hotel. There is also a great trattoria a few minutes from the hotel (Jari's) which was recommended by the hotel and served excellent food. Breakfast costs an additional 5 euro but was plentiful and worth the money. All in all, a great hotel - well worth the money!! I would stay here again.
“Perfect”
This hotel is in a perfect location as others have said, near all public transport and within walking distance of the historical centre. The staff are all welcoming, friendly and speak excellent english. The room we had, was on the first floor and was the quietest hotel room I think I've ever had. And, as a bonus, the restaurant next door is wonderful.
“Very happy”
My room had a small balcony which had a metal grille type thing that continued upwards for about three foot. At first I was disappointed, but considering I was a solo female traveller I actually felt safer knowing nobody would be able to climb over and get into my room. The walls are very thin, so if you have noisy neighbours it will feel like they're in the room with you. Other than that the hotel was beautifully decorated, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it was also in a decent location. There was also a restaurant next door to the hotel which ment I could have a late dinner and know I could get back to the hotel safely.
“Very Good, Convenient Hotel for a few days in Bologna”
Very happy with the hotel which suited my purpose at a decent price for my stay in Bologna. My room was fine for me as a solo traveller and was quiet. The hotel also has spa and fitness facilities if you wish to use. Helpful English speaking front-desk staff. Within easy walking distance from the train station (a frequent bus service links the station and the Airport and costs 6 Euros so save on using Taxis). Pretty much a straight, leisurely 10-15mins walk to Piazza Maggiore city centre area up the Via Independienzza past many shops etc and safe enough to walk at night.
“Beautiful, helpful, but full of bed bugs...”
This really was a beautiful hotel and the staff were tremendously helpful. We hired bikes from the hotel (brilliant) and tested out breakfast (a somewhat small terrace with limited options if you don't arrive early). Unfortunately though, we squashed a few bed bugs - this spoilt the experience slightly.
“A wonderful time”
We were extremely happy with the hotel and their staff. The breakfast was great value too. It was ideally situated for the shops and restaurants. An excellent base to the main train station for trips to the majoriy of Italy. Would definately recommend to anyone wanting to explore the beautiful history that Bologna, Venice, Florence and Milan have to offer.
“Good for a short break”
We had a fantastic time in Bologna, what a great city. The hotel was about 20 minutes walk from the centre of town, and it was easy to find your way around. Staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful, especially the woman on the front desk. We did have to upgrade the room though as the shower was too small in our original room, this room was also slightly too small. The other downside to this hotel was down to the fact there were no carpets in the rooms and the sound of someone dragging their suitcase accross the floor at 6.00am is not too pleasant. The restaurant next door was excellent and to be heartily recommended. Overall a good experience!
