“Mystical”
Location, food, service all excellent but too bloody expensive by Australian,USA,European similiar quality fares.
“A great experience”
If I had to quibble it would be that the food was too expensive and served usually no more than lukewarm. It was impossible to assess its quality because of that. On the upside the staff was helpful and the service immediate and efficient. Our room was not the super deluxe that we had ordered but this was apparently because we asked for two beds. The room we were given was above the service lane and had no view. This was disappointing because my traveling companion had just been released from hospital and had to spend a lot of time in the room. The room itself was large and well equipped. A full-sized bath was a welcome luxury.
“Sign me up for another stay!”
Lilianfels was amazing. My friend and I went for a girls pamper weekend away, and were treated like queens. The service was always very friendly and helpful, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The place is beautiful, and the lounge is so relaxing to wind down by the fire at the end of the day with a delicious hot chocolate or a Riesling. My only complaint (and there's always one!) is that the bed was too soft - I had a sore back in the morning from sinking into the abyss created in the mattress! I would recommend Lilianfels to anybody in need of a bit of R&R. Well worth it!
“Disappointing”
Room was nice, service needed work. Plus no internet (at least useable).
“Abel on the mountain”
superb 5 star service, where the staff have a career instead of a part time job. a very pleasant experience.
“amazing location, great service and ameneties”
It may be the best hotel in Katoomba. both indoor and outdoor pool are big and nice. The hotel and room are very well maintained and decorated with an "old English style" which is probably very appropriate for the setting. I liked the room and especially the shower.
“Great place with a great view”
We traveled to the blue mountains to explore for a couple of days. The price is totally worth the stay, and if I ever am back in Australia I will definately go back. If there is one drawback There were no bath robes in our room......Minor detail, but everything else was great!
“Excellent getaway”
Lilianfels is a very nice hotel and the Expedia special rate made our short three day break much more pleasurable. . Room was nice but a little dated, eg aged TV (not flat screen), dvd's were collect from reception; no in-house movie channel. Rooms could do with a little updating - but for a Blue Mountains retreat we thought the hotel was great. With the apparent demise of the old Fairmont Leura and the Hydro Majestic now closed, this hotel is a beacon amongst otherwise ordinary establishments (except Echoes next door which looked good). We had a beautiful dinner in Darley's restaurant one evening. Definitely deserve their chef's hats. Another night we ate in the Grill since Darley's was not open - that was just average. Another, we ate at a restaurant in Leura called Silks - which was quite nice - but servings a bit large for us. We had afternoon tea some days in the hotel - and that was excellent. Beautiful fresh scones served with high tea - as good as they come - and you can sit overlooking the valley. Pools looked fine - we didn't use them. Location is excellent -within a couple of hundred metres of three sisters, and lovely views over the valley. We thought it was great and well worth the money.
“Great mountain break”
We'd stayed at the hotel about 10 years ago, and hadn't been in a hurry to return. Comfortable, but somehow lacking the sparkle of a 5 star resort. But since the Orient Express mob took over, the place has just lifted. The main thing that seems to have changed is the service. Friendly, helpful folk who din't mind going out of thir way to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. And because it's not a big hotel, after a day or so, the staff seemed to remember our names, or at least recognise us. It's quiet, has beautiful surrounds, and is in a great location for quiet strolls to the Three Sisters and other lookouts. You do need a car to get into the town or Leura. We didn't eat in the hotel, but that's more a function of the myriad restaurants and cafes in the area that needed to be explored. The only niggle was the famous Afternoon Tea. The prices were pretty eye-watering, and once we'd adjusted to that, we waited around 20 minutes to be served. Nothing, so never got to experience it.
