Central location - excellent room

Posted 27-Mar-2015
Pros: Central location, grand old style of hotel.
Cons: Noise proofing of the windows, but that is the same in any old hotel.
Location: British Museum
My room (304) was the best I've ever stayed in at the Russell - very spacious, newly appointed, with great views of the square and an excellent bathroom.

Staying at Hotel Russell was an amazing experience. Not only is it a historic work of art, it's close proximity to the Tube station and numerous places to grab a bite made my stay incredibly easy. It was my first time in London, and after staying in this hotel, I completely intend to go back and stay here again.

Regal and great location

Posted 21-Mar-2015
We were upgraded to a very spacious room with a great view. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. We skipped the very expensive breakfast and enjoyed a quick coffee and muffin in nearby coffee chains. Very easy one train access from Heathrow. Would definetly return.

I have fond memories of the Russell over many year

Posted 11-Mar-2015
Pros: Solidity :-)
Cons: Making sure the computer checkin system works.
Location: The location (a few hundred metres from the British Museum - facing a nice square - not far from the major Northerly rail stations - is prefect.
Sadly, the computer system was down on arrival. The staff handled this with politeness and efficiency but it did delay checkin. My room was super - and quiet. checkout was very efficient.

Perfect location!

Posted 11-Mar-2015
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff
Cons: In room safes should be secured to a wall and not placed loose in the wardrobe at the bottom, very awkward to open and close without kneeling down!
Location: Great location, Only 10 min walk from Kings Cross and about 30 mins walk to Covent Garden
Great location and in easy walking distance to Covent Garden and theatre land. Would certainly recommend the hitel and return again. Breakfast choice was lovely either full English or healthy! Only one downside was our room had windows but they didn't open, so needed aircon to cool the room. Only booked room only but was offered discounted cost for breakfast and free wifi on arrival, worth knowing before booking it in advance.

Good location but building is in poor condition

Posted 10-Mar-2015
Pros: Location and staff are OK. Near the subway and some shops in the vicinity.
Cons: The whole building needs to be brought up to current acoustic standards and a general uplift in the decor.
Location: Shops and parks nearby.
Single room was adjacent the courtyard near the air conditioning units, so too loud and couldn't sleep. The building is old and the refurbishment has been done poorly. The internal walls are paper thin and you can hear everyone walking in the corridor and banging doors. Wallpaper is dirty and marks everywhere. Shower tray wouldn't drain the water quick enough thus water kept spilling over. This is definitely one of the poorest 4* hotels I've stayed in! Its a shame because the old building looks grand. Next time I will go with a chain such as Radisson, Marriott and Hilton as you know what to expect.

Grand old hotel right in Russell Square.

Posted 10-Mar-2015
This hotel is very popular amongst people taking short holidays in the city. The staff are friendly and the location is great. But I had to complain about my room. The carpet and bed were not clean and the window overlooked the fire escape. The second room they gave me was better but still not great and the shower temperature was hard to control. Stay here if you you value your experience in the city more than the hotel.
