“Good value”

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel as it was cheap! The single rooms are small but had good bathrooms and all the facilities you need and the included breakfast was very good. At the time of my stay they were undertaking renovations but it didn't detract from my stay and it is always good to know that the hotel is taken care off. Also plenty of parking

“Great Location & Great Price”

Located just over a mile away from the city strip where all the bars and clubs are located, this was a great hotel to stay at with 12 others for my birthday.

“Not the worst but could be much better”

near centre and easy to get places. Very shabby dull and dusty due to building work being done, Wires hanging out of ceiling. Clean bed linen but stained carpet and walls. En suite toliet looked new but on closer enspection chips out of bath, no soap left in dispenser and got locked in first time I use it. Thankgoodness my friend was in room so she got me out. The shower jumped from cold to scald a lot so dangerous. towels were a gray white colour and well used. I am sure they were clean but white towels should be white. The television had dangling plugs and extentions and we could not get it too work. Could have done with a plug near the kettle rather than over by the door and more plugs for charging mobiles etc would be helpful. The one saving grace was the staff. They were so helpful and friendly and I am assuming they must be taking a lot of flak at the moment due to the terrrible state of the hotel. Well done to them. Management please take note and reward them. All in all it is appreciated that this hotel is being refurbished but a lot of customers must have been put off already and if you are taking money you should provide a better standard. Perhaps a complete close down for refurbishment would have been more prudent as it is hard to recover from so many bad reviews. I am sure it will be a lovely hotel onece it is finnished

“You get what you pay for...period.”

The hotel was just what we wanted. Close to the motorway, clean, and quiet. They had us on a room in the front which was on the main road at first, but then they moved us to the back of the hotel which was nice. I wouldn't pay for wireless there....that is a scam for 10 pounds when I could have a nice meal at McDonalds just down the road and connect there. Good place though and way cheap with my coupon.

“Strange Experience”

My ground floor window to the court-yard couldn't be opened from the hotel room (what a good security feature I thought) - before realising the window opens from the external court-yard side when a drunken woman shouted through it at 2am the following morning in search of her partner. I kindly informed this lady she had the wrong room - she kindly left the window open for me to get out of bed to close it. All-in-all - very strange experience.

“Beware the rules no concept of hospitality”

Look out for the extra rules and conditions when you check in. If you want to be treated like a kid on a school camp stay here. Even if you book for 2 people. No guests in your room that costs £25.00 and cash no credit cards allowed even if they pre-authorise your credit card when you check in. The room I booked said nothing about smoking which it should if it is banned but that’s a £50.00 fine. No eating in your room. No drinking alcohol in your room (which is amusing in view of the very limited range of non-alcoholic drinks they offer in the bar). There is a fine for late check-out etc etc. The whole place is patrolled and the rules rigidly applied by a singularly rude enforcer they have on the front desk. This plus the tiny room size means you probably have more privacy, comfort and hospitality in one of HM’s Open Prisons than this place. Maybe fare enough if you are advised of all this when you book but after the contract is made applying extra terms and conditions I think not. Beware

“Weird experience”

Rather strange experience staying at this hotel. We checked in and were then shown to our room - through the bar, through the restaurant past two bemused diners, through a door into a corridor with a carpet that badly needed cleaning, through another door and then into our room. Part of the original building. It was clean but most odd - as if partly refurbished but they gave up half way through. Dim lighting and only one bedside table and light which was rather odd for a twin room - especially as it wasn't positioned between the two beds. The iron and ironing board were stored in the wardrobe which left little room for hanging clothes. There was no heating and the bathroom was chilly. There were two toilet rolls provided - both with just the end few sheets of paper. The staff were friendly and polite. But Fawlty Towers did come to mind.

“Convenient, clean and good value.”

We booked this hotel as a place to crash for two nights, room only, while working on my daughter-in-law's flat. The bedlinen was clean, the bathroom up-to-date and after the Travelodge where we had stayed the previous week we were impressed to find small packet soaps, soap/shampoo dispensers, stationery and complimentary biscuits as well as packet hot drinks, and a digital LCD TV. Our electronic key didn't work when we came back the second day, but that was rapidly sorted. Front desk staff may look a bit serious and were a bit surprised to find we had no photo ID (passport, driving license) but responded positively to a bit of chat. In the "West Wing" they are still making improvements, so there is the odd loop of cable hanging from a hole in the ceiling in the corridor, and some of the paint on the room was a little battered but the immaculate bathroom, TV and strawberry shortcake biscuits made up for that. Can't comment on the food or the WiFi as we didn't use them

“"You get what you pay for"”

Good points - Restaurant staff extremely welcoming and friendly. We only had breakfast but quality and quantity of food very good. Good choice of eateries for dinner within easy walking distance. Main hotel nicely presented. We were housed in the annexe. Bad points - Located on extremely busy main road. Receptionist seemed disinterested. Annexe appeared recently refurbished and was shabbily finished. Curtains hanging off the rails. Woken frequently during the night by heating pipes banging loudly. Ok for 2 nights and for the price we paid but would not like to have stayed longer.

Area recommendations
Not a fan of cities and this suburb of Birmingham is very busy. Unless you like sitting in traffic jams and queueing in resaurants head for the countryside and get the train in.
