“Convenient location”
We enjoyed our very brief stay here; the hotel was ideally situated a short walk away from the O2 Academy Birmingham (our reason for visiting). It was also a stone's throw from New Street station, Birmingham's main shopping areas and of course, the Mailbox itself and all of its shops, bars and restaurants. The only thing that let it down was that we unexpectedly got a smoking room; we could tell by the (admittedly faint) smell and the ashtrays! I don't remember whether I specified "non-smoking" when booking through Expedia however so I'd give the hotel the benefit of the doubt! Nevertheless, the room was clean and well maintained, and great value. Would definitely stay again.
“Great location”
Great hotel great location
“Tired; First and Last Time”
The room was old and it has a smell possibly from the old carpets. Lifts were old and cranky and took ages to get from floor to floor. If room faces the canal - you get noise from diners up till about midnight and in the wee hours of the morning around 5:30am, you get noise from below - possibly restaurants starting making preparations for breakfast. For the same price, there are much nicer and better value hotels in Brum.
“Good for a 3 star”
On the plus side the rooms are big and are well equipped with a LCD TV, Iron, Ironing board etc. The service was simply excellent, the staff were always helpful, polite and professional- something which seems to be lacking at alot of hotels these days. The negatives were mainly the lack of upkeep with part of the towell rail falling off over night and the phone not working- although i am sure if I had asked this would of been fixed quickly. Also there was some external noise but this is probably to be expected for such a central location.
“great location to see the sights of birmingham”
We went to Birmingham for a girlie weekend away and had a good stay here. As we got there late on Friday it was great to have a large selection of bars and retaurants on our doorstep - Red Peppers was nice. As the rooms are higher than the bars there was very little noise. Breakfast was good with a good choice of cereals, fruit, croissants and cooked English. There was a nice thai restaurant nearby too. Only 5-10 minutes from New Street station this was an ideal location to explore the centre of Birmingham.
“Great location, basic hotel”
Great location! within 5 minute walk from the city's shopping center and 5 minutes walk along the canal to the bars and restaurant. It was a nice spacious room, and bathroom facilities were fine. The hotel restaurant was not so good. The reception area's and elevators smelled of fried food in the morning (not the good kind). However the Hotel is surrounded by plenty of restaurants and bars (by the Mailbox) that it doesn't matter. Another bummer was that there was no Wifi in the room, only a cable internet connection against a 5 pound fee for two days.
“Poor room in a great location”
The hotel was located in a modern shopping complex next to canals and close to the City Centre. Unfortunately the bed mattress was springy and thin - result back pain. There was also mould in the shower (my wifes pet hate. Other facilities were ok.
“Rated a 5....only a little problem.....”
Love this Hotel and Location is Great!!!!!!!! Just a little problem....I don't understand why such a good Hotel doesn't have any inside Internet facilities..... Highly recomend it......
“Very comfy stay”
Set in the middle of the mailbox, the hotel is well situated for bars, shops, etc. A couple of minor points. The room did smell of smoke, even after the second day of our trip (neither of us smoke) and the bed was alittle on the soft side. However, staff were great and helpful, shower was lovely and room was a good size and clean. Also, as out train wasn't due until 5pm staff were flexible about the time we checked out (with no added cost), which amounted to us really having another day out. very nice!
“Good value and good location for sightseeing and public transport.”
No air conditioning and room very hot. But good value.
