In terms of standards set by Mecure themselves, this hotel was not 4 stars by any standards imaginable.
First of the good points, as it is only fair to do so. The staff were very friendly and very helpful; always a smile on their faces, extremely polite and reassuring. I cannot fault their customer-facing staff in any way.
In terms of the breakfast, this was decent, not fantastic. but a limited range. My experience of other 4 star hotel in the UK has been significantly better. Cross-contamination between vegetarian and non-vegetartian cooked food was none more evident when staff were interchanging lids from one to the next without any concern.
The room was privilege room, don't have a clue what that name reflected but was less than a Premier Inn offering. The bathroom was tiny, the fan was absolutely dirty, the wash-hand basin was dirty with remnants of thing a previous guest may have left that were not cleaned properly, the bath had enamel broken off in several places, the shower was a mixer (don't think it was thermostatic), it would run cold and hot (scalding) and no matter how much you tried to get the right balance that was impossible.
All in all a really poor experience and I think at the absolute best this hotel is a 3 Star (by UK standard), elsewhere in the world (Middle East, South East Asia) it could be less.
