Very convenient hotel for the NEC but......

Posted 11-Jul-2014
The hotel was very busy the night we stayed, which isn't a problem as the hotel is larger enough but it is a problem when the smoking area is just by every exit so when ever we walked in or out you had to fight your way through the people and their smoke. To top it off as we were trying to go sleep with a very uncomfortable bed and a sorry excuse for a pillow a lot of people were out at the front of the hotel ( our room was above the front door) talking and smoking, so we closed the window and put on the air con, not only could we still hear a muffled sound of people talking the smell of smoke came through the air con vents so had to switch that off, we finally fell asleep at 4am. Though I have to say the staff were very friendly and helpful.

OK, not much better

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Staying as part of conference hosted by hotel, have done the same 2 years ago. Good location for travel from GB and beyond. Motorways close, short walk from station, short taxi from airport. Check in good. Single room narrow and functional, shower almost claustrophobic. Pool very visible, windows all around. Not sure I'd use unless I had a six pack (I haven't). Gym equipment above average. Bar very slow service, surprised me and possibly hotel as to how much and how late a Methodist conference would use bar. Started with bar snacks, good, but some in our party wanted sit down meal, poor. £28 for very average buffet. Breakfast £10 if booked in advance or at check in, just about worth it, but tempting to wander into NEC for better value

Fantastic hotel close to LG Arena

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Pros: Everything, we will definitely stay again.
Location: If you are attending the NEC or LG Areana then I would recommend this hotel as its minutes away.
We stayed here on the 7th July as we booked to attended a concert at the LG Arena in the evening. I can not fault the hotel, everything was great, helpful staff, everywhere was clean, breakfast was good with plenty of choice, service was good in the restaurant.

Excellent location for NEC and LG Arena(Birmingham

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Pros: Proximity to concert venue.
Cons: Car parking. Sound proofing between rooms, I could hear the conversation in the next room!
Location: Adjacent to the NEC and LG Arena.
Car parking was chaos on the day. Day delegates had not parked as instructed leaving residential guests attending other events having to park a few minutes away and leaving cars in an unsecured car park overnight.

Nice Hotel shame about the check in service or not

Posted 06-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: check in experience
Location: The NEC is very close by but we were using this as a stopover location on route to London but from driving through most of what you need would be clos
I normally cannot rate a check in experience enough, in fact it is normal that things start to go wrong following an excellent experience at check in however on this occasion the service delivered by Mathew was less than satisfactory, it was very clear from his body language that he was not interested in delivering an experience to hotel guests. would probably have been better placed at a back of house role without customer contact. It was not that he was rude just not attentive like one is used to, I arrived and not can I help you. I made first comment good afternoon! - name please no pleasantries and no offer of explanation once booking complete as to how breakfast or restaurant experience operates or that the Hotel has excellent leisure facilities which fortunately we were aware they existed. It is a shame that one person can make such a poor difference to a Hotel's reputation as all the other staff from the leisure attendant to the restaurant staff were excellent.

Perfect location for LG Arena

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Cons: Cannot sit up in bed because the bed head surround is too low and you hit your head on it !
Everything we wanted for a quick weekend in Birmingham.

Great location for LG Arena but needs some TLC

Posted 26-Jun-2014
Pros: Easy parking and Great for LG Arena - just 10 mins walk.
Cons: Attention to detail
Location: Great for LG Arena - just 10 mins walk.
Arrived at 3:30pm to a long queue to check-in. The staff were friendly enough and did apologise, but there must be a better system! I suspect queue pressure meant we did not get a comprehensive check-in: no one mentioned WiFi; discounted parking or anything else for that matter besides a couple of signatures needed & telling us our room number. Our room [4010] was adequate, but is showing signs of age/neglect: balcony door handle so loose it is almost falling off; one bedside light didn't work, bathroom sink has a long crack, surround to the shower knob is not fixed to the wall, & strangest of all was a piece of toilet paper between the bathroom ceiling light and the ceiling - maybe a hole in the ceiling?? We couldn't get on WiFi in our room TV channels are minimal without paying. There were 2 phones [one on the table & one at bedside], which is rather overkill, plus a handset beside the toilet [no idea what for - no one mentioned it] Cleaners were very noisy starting their morning rounds - we knew the fire alarm would be tested at 8:30, but noise from the cleaners seemed to start well before that. We have stayed in many hotels - & generally this one is average. Attention to the small things could have made it so much better. We did not mention shortcomings as we were only staying the one night and it wasn't a major issue. We would stay again mainly due to the convenient location, but there was nothing to set the Hilton Metropole apart from its rivals.

Ideal for NEC visitors

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: swimming pool / sauna
Cons: Offer free parking to guests
Location: NEC/LG arena very close by. Easy to get to and easy to find
Nice hotel, with full use of swimming pool/sauna etc. Rooms clean, beds comfy enough - complimentary tea/coffee, air con etc. Only a 10min walk from the NEC along a well lit footpath. Food was good too - hotel prices obv but good quality

Expensive tiny room

Posted 15-Jun-2014
Very disappointed for the money £200.00 for 1 night in a very small room without breakfast. Hotel taking full advantage of being located next to the NEC. Crowne Plaza for me next time, much better deal. Gary Mundy
