“Excellent value - Far better than much more expensive places”
If you want a mini bar, flat screen telly and take-home shampoo, this isn't the place for you. If you want a nice comfortable stay in reasonable sized rooms with lots of desk space and a comfy bed, with excellent service - then this is the place to come. Restaurant and receptionist staff are quite simply the best I've ever witnessed, even in hotels that cost many many times more. They are happy, helpful and most importantly genuine, rather than the fake and often unwelcoming feel from many other hotels. Rooms are a touch dull due to the energy saving light bulbs, but it wasn't a big problem. Otherwise the bar and restaurant are lovely, with good food and again, excellent service. Really enjoyed my stay.
“Excellent location, Clean and comfortable.”
I attended a concert and the hotel was in an excellent location, close to the NIA, I will go back anytime I have to stay in Birmingham.
“ok but pricey”
An ok hotel; overrated; but clean, tidy, very good location.
“CRICKET BREAK”
hotel was ideal for city centre and for my cricket trip found hotel staff very friendly and courtiuos a few problems due to local rioting but everyone made the most of things
“nice city break”
Arrived on time used room service which was quick and convenient on first night, second night used the on-site chinese restaurant which was good too. Room was fine and not too m#noisy for central Birmingham. great location walking distance to broad ss, new st etc.
“My only every complaint about a hotel”
We chose the Copthorne Hotel in Birmingham as I had thought that the 4 star rating it has been given would mean that the rooms would be of a higher standard than those of other hotels nearby with lower star ratings. I therefore was happy to pay nearly twice what some of my fellow travellers paid for lower star hotels in the same vicinity. After I saw the room we had been allocated I was extremely disappointed. It was tiny - there wasn't room for 2 people to freely move around and you couldn't just walk into the bathroom without bending around the fittings. The carpet was all pulled up, everything was shabby and dreary looking and the view from the window was a concrete wall. The sink was also blocked in the bathroom. I complained about the room which I have never even considered doing before in any other hotel I have ever stayed in. The receptionist said that the quality of the room was not covered by the 4 star rating but that instead we were paying for the "service". She then said that we could move to the 2nd floor where the more deluxe rooms were. When we saw the new room, we couldn't tell the difference - it was just as bad but the view out of the window was better. We then gave up and spent as little time in the hotel as possible thereafter. My fellow travellers in the other hotels were very pleased with their hotels and I wish I'd joined them.
“Good city centre hotel”
Well situated, adjacent parking (may be full if you arrive later in the day), good breakfast
“weekend in brum turist friendly”
we went down to Birmingham to recce the Symphony Hall as my wife's school choir are singing in a national comp in July.We drove down from Lancashire and took in the Gardeners world exibihtion at the NEC on Saturday morning . We found the hotel quite easily . We booked the hotel's Bugis Street brasserie as we were going to the theatre and needed a quick solution to eat, we had the set meal from the Singapore menu 3 courses for £16.50 great value, soup starter hot and sour, followed by 3 main courses one fish, one chicken curry and a pork dish accompanied by boiled rice and steamed veg. good sized portions plenty for two. Dessert was a Sago milk pudding with a palm sugar syrup, very different. The house rose wine at £9.95 for a 50cl bottle was just right. We took a cab to the New Alexandra theatre to see The Whiz an R& B version of The Wizard of Oz from Birmingham Rep a really good enthusiastic performance. Next morning we declined the hotel breakfast at £14.95 and instead opted for a walk down to the ICC and walked through the complex to the canal where the narrow boat the George did a great full english with coffee for £6.60 no contest ! .We went back to the Symphony Hall and just asked if we could have a quick look in having explained my wifes interest . The concierge of the ICC was very helpful and proceeded to give us the Cooks Tour and full history of the building and allowed us to take some photos for the kids to see.
“4*????”
The hotel is ideally situated but sadly, it is not 4 star quality. When asked to check us in, the staff member "huffed" and reluctantly did so. The hotel is dated and the room was certainly on a par with a run down b&b, cheap end. Carpets lifting, badly mounted fittings, mould around bath and poor lighting, smell of damp or something which i later worked out as vomit. The room furniture was worn and certyainly not what I would have expected. TIME WARP. ANy good points? yes, the supervisior at the desk was lovely, the gym wasnt bad for a rundown hotel, it certainly was convenient, and getting out of there on checkout :)
“Really enjoyable and pleasant stay”
We spent 2 care-free and stress-free days in this City. It was just what we both needed to recharge our batteries. The hotel was centrally located, really nice with frendly, helpful staff. Everything you needed was right there 'on your door-step,' from museums, jaz club, canals, pubs, and whatever type of dining you chose. It was all within close walking distance. Overall it was a really nice experience, that we would recommend.
