Pros: Staff were pleasant and I liked the history associated to the hotel.
Cons: Fresh lick of paint, ensure rooms odour free and replace bathrooms.
Location: I came on business
The hotel was in a good location and has recently undergone a refurb I understand, however, my room had an overwhelming smell of tobacco which smelt ingrained, The room was clean enough but looked very tired, the shower was ineffective. There were various paint patches around the room. I regularly work in Glos and would prefer to stay elsewhere given my experience.

Pleased to find that there was a (wo)manned check-in desk in spite of being told there was none. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very pleased to find that the room was at the back away from the road and that it had a super-king bed. This was a welcome change from the usual standard double where one or other falls out during the night.

Attractive hotel in a beautiful area.

The Royal George was selected by us due to it's proximity to many popular Cotswold villages and to Swindon where we were attending a family function that weekend. Considering the relatively low price we paid, we were pleased with this very welcoming hotel. The room was fairly basic but tastefully decorated and the restaurant served good pub grub. All staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel surroundings were pretty. The room could have done with a little TLC in parts as there was wear and tear to the bath panel and to paintwork but nothing that made it unpleasant. The room was a little warm as the window was small and let in little breeze but the building is so old and the window a part of it's charm with an old fashioned deep sill. Spotlessly clean. We would recommend to others and are likely to stay again ourselves too.

Yet another hotel to try for my weekly commute...

Posted 29-May-2015
Pros: 1) Countryside location. 2) Clean and recently decorated. 3) Good parking. 4) Good food - including breakfast.
Cons: 1) Sound proof the bedroom walls - please! 2) Breakfast & service = great - however it could be faster & better organised. 3) Shampoo in bathroom.
Location: I just work and sleep - probably not the best to ask about things to do near the hotel...
Booked this hotel online via Expedia - a slight problem that even though I had selected prepay, the hotel hadn't received the money so I had to pay again on checkout. I'll have too keep an eye on my statement to make sure I don't get double charged - that is the first time this has happened. The hotel is set out in the countryside with little else in terms of meal options etc in walking distance. However the bar is welcoming with a good selection of food - there is a restaurant too. There is a garden area if the weather allows you to get outside although despite ashtrays being located everywhere, it seems to be the local custom to drop cigarette buts on the floor :( I did not that a lot of mountain bikers and hikers seem to park at the hotel and strike out - presumably knowing there will be a hot meal and a pint on their return (nb: good selection of beers). It would appear that the hotel has been recently (and tastefully in my view) redecorated. It appears to offer space for functions and was hosting a wedding dinner on the day I left - the bride to be was very pleased with the choice of location.

comfortable stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Royal George, the room was quiet, comfortable and clean. We ate in the restaurant which was really good. After a day walking the Cotswold Way it was just what we needed, lovely to have a bath too to soak those aching muscles.

Nice hotel and nice food

Posted 11-Apr-2015 on Hotels
We had a very pleasant one night stay over Easter. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the free wi-fi was good. We ate our evening meal at the hotel, which was a nice and plentiful Sunday roast (veggie version was a nice leek and potato pie). Disappointingly the hotel refused to accept our 'free dessert' vouchers which we had downloaded to our phones, and insisted they had to printed out although this wasn't one of the terms and conditions on the voucher. I thought this was rather petty, so we didn't bother with dessert or any additional coffees/drinks and just asked for the bill. We had a nice sleep as the room was very quiet and dark, and the breakfast in the morning was nice although it was a shame the vegetarians didn't have the option of a full-English. It was good value for our stay.
