“Excellent hotel and perfectly situated for Guggenheim and city centre”
Excellent hotel. Guggenheim Museum 2/3 minutes walk away and city centre about 10 minutes. Staff extremely friendly throughout our stay- general enquiries about Bilbao answered helpfully and additional requirements for room answered promptly. Our room was at the front of the hotel and overlooked the Guggenheim with lovely views of surrounding hills. Room was excellent with usual facilities- king size double bed very comfortable. We ate breakfast at cafés in the streets close to the hotel- plenty of choice. The courtesy bar in the hotel was particularly useful if you wanted a short break between activities or visits- wide range of wine, beer, coffee, soft drinks available without charge. Bus stop for the airport bus in Alameda Recalde five minutes walk way. No hesitation in recommending this great hotel.
“Excellent boutique hotel”
The Miro is a lovely boutique hotel, with excellent rooms, great service and helpful staff. Turned a good weekend into an amazing one!
“Convenient for Guggenheim”
The two minutes' walk from the Guggenheim made this hotel perfect for our 3 night stay. It did suffer from a lack of an on-site restaurant/coffee shop and the recommendation of the staff proved to be not what we were looking for. The room service food left much to be desired. Breakfast was fine, if expensive at the current exchange rate. The room was very well designed and very comfortable. Would return, having checked out alternative eating places.
“Comfortable and welcoming.”
Ideal location for Guggenheim and easy to walk around City.
“Great weekend destination”
Good overall experience. Great location only a few metres from the Guggenheim. Pleasant rooms, minimalist but comfortable. Free bar was a great bonus. Only let down was that breakfast was not included in our rate, and at an extra 17 Euros was poor value. Overall recommend both the hotel - and Bilbao as a weekend destination.
“Great location for hte Guggenheim”
Location is the key, you can see the Guggenheim from your room window and makes it a great place to stay if you are only in town for a night as we were. Comfy, helpful staff and the complimentary bar downstairs was a nice touch. it meant you could get a cup of tea/water when you fancied without having to fork out £2 a go. There was a bit of an issue with the shower - sent water right across the bathrrom but this is easily fixed.
“Well designed decor, attentive service, pity about the maintenance noise!”
We enjoyed four nights at the Hotel Miro, Bilbao. Our room was comfortable and well designed with an excellent view of the Guggenheim Museum (main reason for trip). It benefited from free Wifi. The buffet breakfast was substantial and varied and the 24 hour room service, though limited, was reasonably priced, arrived quickly and was nicely presented. Drinks from the bar were also reasonable and came with free peanuts. Our only niggle was the noise of maintenance from the room next door one evening (drilling and banging). I asked the workman if it could be done at another time and he claimed not to understand my Spanish. When I persisted he did stop. But resumed the next morning. We had planned to ask for a late check out but the noise was so great we decided not to and sat in the lounge while waiting for our evening flight. Sadly I did not have time to sample the spa.
“Hotel Miro: Bilbao”
I stayed at this hotel during the first two weeks of September 2010. The hotel is mainly smart and stylish, but is currently in need of some TLC - eg, the rooms have loads of scuff marks on the walls, the shower head leaked, the black marble made the bathroom look dusty, even though it wasn't. I stayed in three rooms during my stay. The first room was behind the lift shaft, so I could hear the lifts scraping past which in the end meant a change of room - to which, to be fair, the hotel readily agreed. The next room was an interim for one night, as another more suitable room wasn't available. The third room was at the front of the hotel, and looked over more or less directly the Guggenheim museum. The rooms don't have a solid wall between the bedroom and bathroom - if you're standing at the sink in the bathroom, the wall either side of the mirror are 'missing', and you can see between the two rooms. There is a curtain you can draw, and I guess it depends on the nature of the relationship of the person you're staying with whether or not it's a problem for you. I had a problem with noise from the next door bedroom, but the receptionist dealt with it promptly. The buffet breakfast was pretty much standard fair - croissants, fruit, yoghurts, bacon, scambled egg, etc - but really expensive at 17 euros a pop. I would stay at this hotel again, even though there were problems - the staff dealt with all the issues promptly and professionally, and that made all the difference.
“Highly recommended”
The decor of the hotel was excellent. It was perfectly located to the Guggenheim museum. Staff were very helpful, relaxed and laid back about everything although they did appear to be busy doing their own thing all the time. The ventilation system in the room needs upgrading as it was very hot [Feb] all the time and the only way to cool down the room temperature was to open the rather large window which would then let in all the food smell from neighbouring buildings. The room temperature control system didnt work as it should. The lobby bar was free and that really was the best treat in the hotel! You get free snacks like mini salami rolls, croissants, peanuts, crisps, fresh apples, and drinks such as bottled beers, juices, water, and wine! There is also a Nespresso machine and you can have as much coffee as you like with plenty of hot milk available at all times and lots of different teas and herbal teas with a kettle to boil hot water. However the room bar was not free but yet there was no price list in the room so one could have easily mistaken it for being free as well. The dvd player in the room was great with a good size tv to play it on. Although there were numerous umbrellas for the guests, most of them were broken by the strong winds and rain so advertising Miro Hotel with broken umbrellas was not cool! All in all, we thought it was a fantastic hotel [with the exceptional free lobby bar] and have already recommended people to go there whilst visiting the Guggenheim.
“a pleasant surprise”
The hotel provided a warm and welcoming respite from unusually cold, late january rainy/snowy weather- a surprise to us and the locals.I would definitely use it again, and will recommend to friends- the location is fantastic, just across from the guggenheim, and just a short walk to the tram which goes to the casa vieja!
