“Room with an almost view”
Located right by the river, booked a superior room at a reasonable rate, but unfortunately the 5th floor is just not quite high enough to see over the pesky trees to be able to see anything but the very top of the the Guggenhiem. Thats said though, the room was large, the bed very comfortable, and a nice view otherwise of the river and the trees from the chaise longe in the window/balcony area. As mentioned elsewhere, the bathroom won't be to everyones taste with its frosted glass doors that don't give 100% privacy, but there's always the option to book separate rooms! Service at checkin and checkout with just one person on the front desk was not fast, but it was polite and efficeint when my turn came. I took the option for the breakfast at €10 by prebooking at checkin, it was a nice looking spread, but the scrambled eggs were barely warm and I was probably in too much of a rush to enjoy it. Overall, nice stay, nice area, and good clean modern hotel.
“Perfect position”
Really nice modern hotel near to the Guggenheim on the other side of the river, but only 8 minutes walk away with easy access over two bridges, and 15 minutes from the Old town. Rooms small, modern, nicely outfitted, a/c that works, flat screens. Food was really good; excellent breakfast with a lot of choice, one dinner in the cafe was excellent. Recommended.
“A hidden gem”
A modern and very clean hotel a great place to relax and see the fab sights of Bilbao. The hotel is very quiet and staff are helpful and friendly. A great breakfast set us up for the day. English is spoken by hotel staff but out and about it was difficult to communicate with locals so try to take a short course in Basque or take a phrase book. People eat dinner late so the main places to eat do not open until 8 - 8.30. Very very impressed with the hotel and Bilbao. Cannot wait to return.
“Brilliant for the money”
A good hotel in a great location for the money we paid. The room was comfortable and well furnished but the bathroom was a bit open plan for our liking. Two problems: we couldn't get the air conditioning to work and had to ask three times, suspecting that it had been turned off to save money; and one day the room was only tidied at 5.10pm. We ate breakfast at Cafe Bilbo behind the hotel which was the friendliest bar and very cheap. Overall we would stay there again.
“Bilbao surprise”
In all honesty we booked both our short stay in Bilbao and our hotel accommodation with not much thought. It was just a means to an ends for visiting the Guggenheim (which was brilliant). We were surprised that Bilbao was a great place to spend some time, and by the lovely room, service and fabulous location of the Hesperia. If I were to head back to Bilbao, I would have no hesitation in staying at the Hesperia again. I am not sure if breakfast is an option with the accommodation, my opinion is to eat out of the hotel. There are plenty of places to eat in Spain, cheaply and well! All in all a fantastic stay and very, very good value for the rate we paid.
“Really nice hotel”
Very nice hotel!
“Nice hotel, wonderful location”
I stayed at this hotel twice -- for 2 nights before the start of a tour and for one night a week later at the end of the tour. Both times check in was smooth & efficient. The hotel is modern, and although our room was on the small side, for a European hotel, it was bigger than average. The location is great - just a few minutes from museums and about a 10 minute walk from the old city. The staff was friendly & helpful. The breakfast (included in our room rate) was very good and the free wireless worked great.
“great location, hip hotel close to the Guggenheim”
This was probably our favorite hotel in all the cities we visited in Spain. It was very modern, chich and in a great location right on the river and within walking distance to everything important. The restaurant is also very good and I'm a tough critic.
“Great Stay, Beautiful Waterfront View, So Close to the Guggenheim”
Our stay was excellent. With a location right on the river and just a short walk to the Guggenheim, we had a fantastic time. The café near the lobby is a great place for breakfast, and the free wi-fi was definitely a plus.
“Good hotel Overall”
The Bilbao Hesperia, Is centrally located, on the shore of the river that runs through town and directly across from the famous Guggenheim museum, this fact makes it easy to visit the center of town and the museum on foot and the stroll is great around this area and town. The hotel has a nice cafe with appetizers and drinks and also a full course restaurant from breakfast to dinner the restaurant serves gourmet quality meals and wines. The hotel is contemporary in architecture, clean and comfortable. we enjoyed our stay. breakfast was included in our rate and they were very delightful. Service included: variety of juices, pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, eggs, cheeses, coffee or tea . The decoration of the dining room is also attractive... Find it out for yourselves!
