“Good location, decent hotel for the low price”

This was our second hotel in Bilbao, having had three days in San Sebastian in the middle. We stayed near the Guggenheim initially but wanted something nearer the old town so chose Abando, whcih turned out to be the sister hotel of where we stayed in San Seb. The 4* hotel was reasonable, double room a bit standard and drab, perhaps could do with a refurb and was on a par with San Seb. (I would say 3.5*) Main problem we had was our door not locking as we were leaving to go to dinner; called for assistance but concierge could not fix it; therefore had to move rooms into a twin smoking room (admittedly minimal smoke smell, but a lot of hassle to switch rooms in a rush). Both rooms looked out onto quite a busy street, noisy early am with deliveries/rubbish collection. Could not get the air con to cool so room was a bit too warm, hence the window open and the noise. Location was very good, 5 mins to old town, surrounded by lots of cafes, restaurants and city centre shopping; prob 15-20 mins stroll to Guggenheim. On the whole helpful staff, apologised for the door issue and called our restaurant for us to advise we were running late. Did not eat or drink there, breakfasting at a nearby cafe. Would probably stay there again for the same rate.

Area recommendations
Guggenheim Museum and adjoining river area. I think most tourists are in Bilbao to see the museum but the walk from the old town along the riverbanks to the museum and beyond are very pleasant, several bridges to cross back and forth, with lots of good views and angles to snap the museum and a few other public art sculputures and oddities. Nice cafe by the museum too.

“Clean, comfortable”

The Abando in Bilbao is a nice place to stay. If we go back to Bilbao, we will consider staying there again, depending on the hotel room deals available at the time we book... Very near old town area. Walking distance to Guggenheim. Hotel room very comfortable. Breakfast tolerable, but nothing to write home about - small dining room - coffee was warm (not hot) all 3 days we were there. Appears they do a lot of local business - wedding and parties. Staff friendly & helpful. We booked the Abando based on Expedia user reviews, and were not disappointed.

Traveller's tip
They charge 10E per day for Internet access. Seems a tad high, as most other places we've stayed in Europe include Internet for free.

“Snarly night clerk. Bad bed”

We were looking forward to a 4 star hotel. Unfortuanately, the night hotel clerk, never smiled. The bed was bad with springs poking us. The room had only one small window. We stayed at many 2 star hotels in Spain, which had better service and better rooms. This hotel was a huge disappointment.

“hotel Abando à bilbao très bien situé ,”

l'hotel est très bien situé , le personnel est très professionnel et tout est conforme aux 4 étoiles annoncées . Nous avons pu faire à pied toute la ville et les musées , ce que nous voulions en priorité

“hotel abando bilbao”

ottimo hotel a prezzi contenuti.posizione centralissima e personale anche se un pò "freddo" molto cortese.Unico neo nell'hotel ma anche a Bilbao il fuomo nei locali pubblici.

il centro è tutto bellissimo,ordinato,pulitissimo e sicuro.ma è bellissima anche portugalete(25 min dal centro),dove si trova il ponte Colgante,un'opera molto particolare.Bella la visita guidata allo stadio "San Mames".
