“Novotel Bern”

A fairly new hotel less than 1 yr old I think. Location about 15 mins walk from Bern centre. We got a good deal through Expedia rack rates are expensive so look for offers. Staff spoke good English and dealt with my queries very efficiently(ironing board, milk for tea in room, street map and free Internet access in room and bar) We had room on floor 6 overlooking neighbouring stables and a beautiful view of the mountains beyond. Car parking plentiful and felt secure. Breakfast very good, again staff attentive and cheery. We walked back from Bern in the dark and felt quite safe. Bern is a very beautiful old city, but Switzerland is expensive for all but petrol. Cannot really think of a negative about our one night stay there. This building contains Novotel, Ibis and Etap in one although all run separately.

“Good hotel but beware of extras”

This is a good hotel but beware of the hidden extras. They charge you 12 Swiss Francs to park the car, almost 20 Swiss Francs for breakfast and additional tax on the room. Drinks at the bar are reasonably priced for Switzerland.
