“excellent location”

booked this short break 3 days before travel .was all excellent.The xmas markets all 6 of them were breathtaking .the locals so friendly and helpful. would definetly go back again. p.s. take warm clothes bitter cold, but all markets sell hot mulled wine with blankets and heaters at some. fantastic. this hotel was central for all sightseeing

“New hotel, great location”

The location is spot on - just a short 10 minute walk from Potsdamer Platz and the SBahn Anhalter Strasse station is right outside. The hotel is new, clean and comfortable. The rooms are well equipped - standard Novotel formula with some extras. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a selection of the 36 free films (many recent releases) on the TV - it was a great way to chill out at the end of long days of sight-seeing.

Area recommendations

There's loads to see and do in Potsdamer Platz area - galleries, the Sony Centre. We particularly liked the Film and TV Museum and the informal restaurant Vapiano. We also recommend Hackesche Markt area and Gendarmenmarkt - great places to amble in and enjoy the local life.

“Great value !!!”

Lovely modern hotel-large bedroom with fridge and microwave. Reception staff extremely helpful. Approx. 20min walk to Brandenburg Gate.Convenient for all public transport. Highly recommended!!

“Very nice Hotel in Berlin”

Great experience / well located, friendly staff, rooms with a very interesting design. The only thing that I would question is that (and maybe this is due to the fact that we had a wheelchair accessible room) the door of our bathroom had holes in it and you could see the other way through. Maybe was a 'cool design'.. i would just take that away... change the doors.. :p but other than that, I highly recommend staying there.. I loved the soft-fabric curtain dividing the room into two different rooms..

“Great location. Would go back in a minute”

This hotel is in a fabulous location close to the S-bahn, Potsdamer Platz, Topography of Terror, Friedrichstr. Staff was very efficient and generally helpful. The hotel was clean, bright, and cheerful. Only two complaints--the guest computers in the lobby had technical difficulties (not surprising since they were running a Windows application on a Mac), and the selection of TV channels was not great. But who wants to lie around watching TV when you're in the middle of one of Europe's most interesting cities anyway?

“If IKEA made hotels, it'd be a bit like this place.”

We went to this hotel on my boyfriend's recommendation. When we checked in, the staff were friendly, and spoke English which is good if your German isn't up to scratch. The rooms was large, clean, but not exactly what you'd expect. They are furnished in a modern style, with a little kitchen, microwave, and fridge which is useful. The best way to describe it is that its like an inside out carravan. The bathroom and toilet are in separate cabins, a bit different, but fun. Location wise, you're right near checkpoint charlie, and a short walk from Potsdamer Platz, The Brandonberg Gate, and Mitte in the other direction.

“Suite Novotel Potsdamer Platz”

Four of us shared our room - my wife and I, and two teenage daughters. Whilst it was a squeeze, we knew what we were expecting and it was adequate. The room was comfortable enough and the hotel was not noisy in the slightest - perfectly suited for families, or couples who do not want noisy nightlife. The staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel is located right next to the Anhalter Bahnhof S-Bahn station, which in turn is linked to major public transport hubs at Potsdamer Platz and Friedrichstrasse. This made getting around the city easy, given the excellent public transfer links in Berlin. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as an ideal base for exploring this vibrant and exciting city.

When to go

If you wish to experience a true European Christmas, Berlin in December is a treat. With over 100 Christmas markets to choose from there is something for all ages and tastes. However, be prepared for the chilly weather and pack appropriate clothing!

Getting around

The public transport network in Berlin is as good as it gets. Even though the winter weather was biting hard while we were there, there was almost no indication of delays or cancellations. If you are travelling in groups of 5 or less you can purchase a Small Group Ticket (Kleingruppenkarte) for about 16 Euros (slightly more if you need to travel from/to zone C ie Schoenefeld airport/Potsdam). This is great value, and will allow you and your group to travel on all forms of public transport throughout the city until 03:00 the following day!

“Would Happily Stay Here Again”

A very versatile hotel room especially when travelling with kids. We loved staying here, as we could reconfigure the room to our needs. Well designed with lots of thought into how the room would be used. It was also very near to the S Bahn and short walk to Potsdamer Platz and Checkpoint Charlie so getting around was easy. We found the hotel staff to be friendly enough and would happily stay again.
