“Good for family or business trips”

The atmosphere of the hotel is a little bit senior, so I wouldn't recommend it if you rather like to be in a young hostel like environment.

“Excellent Berlin Stay”

Loved the service, everyone very friendly - place was spotless clean, and I cannot fault the room. If I ahd to look for an issue, it would be the fact that internet access costs extra - seems a little old fashioned; but I would stay again for sure, very nice place.

“Berlin Hideaway!”

Typically efficient Movenpick Hotel, very comfortable accommodation with requisite amenities for a short stay. Very friendly helpful staff.

Area recommendations

We covered a lot of ground over two and a half days and, would recommend all the areas visited. Tiergarten, Mitte, Charlottenberg, Kreuzberg.

Getting around

If staying in Kreuzberg, as we were, Schonefeld transfer very straightforward. For 3euros each, SXF1 bus right outside terminal to Sudkreuz Station, then S2 train to Anhalter Bahnhof direction Bernau. Reverse route coming back, buy tickets at at any station at anytime, just validate in machines next to ticket machines when you actually travel. Underground is easy and good value.

Shopping

Forget all the hype about KaDe We, it's too big, too busy and you've seen it all before! Having said that, it's worth going just to visit the sixth floor!

Dining

Vapiano nr. Potsdamer Platz is very good, Sophieneck in Grosse Hamburger Strasse is also very good and, Cafe Einstein Stammhaus, Kurfurstenstrasse 58, is excellent and, well worth the trouble to find!

“A nice place to stay”

The Hotel was clean, tidy and well presented. The staff spoke good English and were very helpfull. We asked for quiet rooms and apart from one annoying drunken guest on the first night at 3am, it was fine. Its a 10min walk to the nearest U-Bahn Station, but If you stray off the main road the area becomes a little unerving late at night with alot of student residential areas and dark corners nearby, during the day its not an issue. Right across the road is a bizzare war bunker attraction which is worth a visit if you like a fright, though it doesnt appear in the guide books. The Hotel Bar is well stocked and the reasturant looks vert good quality and well presented. Breakfast is very expensive at 22 Euro's so we didnt eat at the Hotel but there is a local cafe right next door who do coffee, tea, eggs and toast though english is not really understood, lots of pointing required but friendly staff. If you travel into the sony centre plaza (15min walk), under the impressive roof there are two cafe's who speak good english and serve great breakfast food. There is an Australian bar who do more 'British type' meals for the evening. Overall the hotel is what I expected for the price, we enjoyed the stay and would use it again. Oh, some rooms have either a shower OR a bath so it will be worth your while specifying your preference. There is a misty glass wall between the en-suite and the room, so be prepared for that if your in a new relationship! Enjoy.

Area recommendations

Most of the main attractions are fantastic. We decided to take a 2hr tour bus around the city, which is a good idea so you can see the sights and decide wich ones you want to go back to.

Getting around

I found little information about getting to the city from the schönefeld airport before I went and there were allot of confused tourists trying to get tickets for the trains, so heres what you actually have to do: Walk to the train station from the airport terminal under the covered walkway outside Terminal A arrivals, go down the underpass ramp / stairs and buy a ticket from one of the ticket machines down there for Berlin zones A, B, C. We were there for a long weekend and bought a 7 day pass for 33 Euros, which works on the Underground and the Airport Train shuttle. The machines are quite confusing but select english and touch on 'Season Tickets' then '7 day' then 'Berlin' then 'Berlin B', there you'll find 'Berlin ABC' which is the right zone for getting to/from the airport. Once you have your ticket (euro notes only) you have to get it validated by using the little red box at the top of the stairs, on the platforms. This box date stamps the tickets. YOU WILL NEED A TICKET BEFORE YOU GET ON THE TRAIN, or heafty fine. The Airport express train left from platform 3 but just follow the crowds. The U-bahn is a great way to travel around the city and works the same way as the london underground, the signs are easy to pick up and follow. The underground lines are 'U--' and the above ground local lines are 'S--' on the diagrams. If you get on the wrong underground train just change platforms and go back the other way! simples.

“Nice Hotel, Good location, Indifferent staff”

We stayed here for 1 week in mid-December. Great location, an easy walk to Potsdamer Platz, and an S-bahn station and taxi stand directly across the street. Our room was very nice and spotless. Some people won't like the glass block bathroom walls. You can see fuzzy silhouettes of people in the bathroom, but certainly no more than that. A non-issue. The staff was very professional, to the point of seeming a bit brusque. But I'm sure it was with no bad intentions. We had the breakfast one morning, which was expensive (over 20 euro/per person), but amazing. Very high quality and endless assortment of meats, cheeses, fruit, ... worth trying one morning if you can swing it. If not, there are several decent restaurants right around the corner, which wouldn't even cost 20 euro total for 2 people.

Area recommendations

Mitte... lots to do, and really feels like a modern European city.
