“Excellent location”

Hotel Altberlin is a very nice and querky hotel with friendly staff. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is located in an excellent location near to many major points of interest. Newspapers were provided but were only available in German. The weather forecast noticeboard was also in German. Television chanels were all in German apart from CNN and BBC World. Recommend the city bus tour which covers all major sights. When visiting the TV Tower allow a minimum of 3 hours waiting time depending on ticket sales and the time of day that you go there. Overall we had a lovely time and would go back again.

“Good Location in Berlin”

Can't fault the hotel. Near to both U & S Bahn stations. About a 10 Min walk to Postdamer Platz.. Both girls on reception where pleasant and helpful, and the inclusive breakfast was more than adequate. The only thing my wife didn't like was that there only 1 mirror in our room which was in the bathroom. Which meant if I was in the shower she couldn't use it. Would defiantly stay there again.

“Lots of character”

Comfortable hotel full of character. Convenient for buses. A stop right outside to all parts of the city, including airport. Hotel restaurant very good (loved Grandfather's mustard soup!) and more than adequate breakfast buffet.

“A very nice, friendly hotel.”

This was a very nice friendly hotel with helpful staff and comfortable facilities. It was nice to stay somewhere which had a bit of personality, and we would love to return at some point. The breakfast was fantastic, and we ended up eating far too much each day... delicious!

“Very charming”

Hotel Altberlin has great period character but just because the styling is old fashioned, doesn't meant the service and conditions are out-of-date. I found the staff very cheerful and helpful, the breakfast good and available till quite late in the morning, and the (single) room and bathroom generously sized and equipped. My room looked out over the courtyard which was lovely (the front of the hotel faces a main road) and the hotel provides umbrellas at reception, which, given the number of incredible thunder storms while I was there, was a welcome service! Situated only 10 minutes' walk from Potsdamer Platz, Hotel Altberlin was a great base for walking to all the main sights (Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Topography of Terrors, Checkpoint Charlie, etc.), PLUS it was reasonably priced AND buses to/from the main train station stop right outside the door. As you might guess, I'd thoroughly recommend this place!

“Surprisingly good”

The hotel entrance looks dated and derilict as do the stairs up to the rooms. Once in the room it was a pleasant surprise - very clean, comfortable and well equipped. After being in the hotel for a day, my view of the entrance changed for "dated" to "character". The evening meal available in the hotel restaurant was also incredibly good. I'd definitely stay here again if returning to Berlin.

“Retro Comfort”

The hotel Altberlin is quirky, comfortable and very conveniently situated. Its owners are trying to recreate the feel of a fin de siecle hotel with antiques in the public rooms and staff in appropriate dress. The restaurant's menu uses old family recipes (Beautifully cooked though like most German restaurants heavily dependent on the pig!). Breakfasts are buffet style - with a very good variety of everything. The bedrooms are fairly standard but plenty big enough and have minibar and flat screen tv. There is a delightful little courtyard where you can take your drinks or meals. Staff speak English and are unfailingly helpful. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but you could walk to the Brandenberg gate in about twenty minutes. There is a U-bahn station about five minutes walk away. We would definitely use this hotel again on return to Berlin.

“Worth a visit”

Very central. Close to train and underground. Easy to reach the airport using public transport. Helpful english speaking staff. Would be nice to have a kettle in the room for a cup of tea. However would use again as good value for money and central.

“Quirky”

An old fashioned hotel, it seems to have been converted from an old apartment block, and does not resemble a purpose-built modern chain type of hotel. Very quirky and original in its decor.A delightful courtyard where you can have breakfast. There is a lift, but it doesn't go to all floors so there are quite a few stairs to negotiate too. Breakfast was satisfying - laid out as a buffet there were sausages, scrambled and boiled eggs, toast, bread rolls, yoghurt, a selection of cheeses and hams, cereals, juice, tea and coffee. Nice clean towels are provided in the bathroom, and the shower worked fine, no problems there. Comfortable beds - but the pillows are a bit flimsy. Tv in the room with mostly German-speaking stations, as well as radio. There was an option for pay per view films, which we didn't try. A small mini bar is also provided. A short walk from a number of underground stations, and a bus stop right outside. Very close to the attractions. I'd recommend AltBerlin if you like your hotels slightly odd and unusual.
