“This is a 3 star hotel”

Quite shabby for a 4 star hotel. Carpets were dirty and ours wasn't even hoovered when we arrived which was vey offputting. Fittings and bathrooms were what I would expect in a 3 star hotel. Double room was twin beds pushed together with seperate mattresses. However, hotel was very handy for shops on the ku'damm. Good restaurants nearby and easy access to Zoo station.

“Ideal location”

First time travelling to Berlin on my own, I chose this hotel mainly because of its location, right at the centre and within easy reach of all transport. Area felt safe to walk in and, although so centrally situated, room was quiet at night. Single room was modern, clean and reasonably sized. Staff at reception were particularly helpful and friendly, but some breakfast room staff a little less so ( perhaps I was just unlucky with those on duty at the time). Only two minor quibbles - a normal single-sized duvet on a very large bed just didn't work, and I would have expected tea or coffee making facilities in the room in a hotel of this standard. They would have been greatly appreciated. Otherwise an ideal base for a couple of days stay.

Either areas near KDW or in Mitte for easy access to everything

“It was ok...”

It wasn't a bad hotel, but it wasn't the best hotel. It was safe and clean. The underground was right on the same block about a minute away. If you like shopping it is a perfect hotel for you.

“Nice hotel - decent location”

Room was clean and comfortable and service was very good (English-speaking staff, loaning out American-European power adapters). The hotel has a nice fitness area, although some machines are out of service. The location is close to KaDeWe and the shopping district, as well as the Kaiser Wilhelm church. However, it is a 15min walk from major train or bus lines. There is a subway stop very near the hotel, but it is 2 connections away from anywhere you want to go.

“No Internet”

You cant connect to the internet from your room. They claim you have to sit at the bar, next to the front desk but even there, the signal is extremely poor. The lady at the bar doesnt speak any english whatsoever and thats where you are suppossed to eat breakfast. they were nice enough to bring me a hot cup of water every night at 10:30pm even though they only have room service until 10pm

“Top notch Hotel”

The Alsterhof Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Berlin. The staff are very competent, friendly and very helpful. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned to a high standard every day. I can highly recommend this Hotel.

Area recommendations

I would recommend a visit to Berlin as it has many Museums, churches and lots of other attractions within the centre and within walking distance. There are many shopping centres, theatres and also a vast tier garten for people who like peace and quiet.

When to go

You can go to Berlin at any time as there is plenty of indoor activities as well as outdoor. Recommend buying a Wilkommen Card from the BVG as this entitles you to travel on all the public transport to which are credited to be the best transport system in europe. You can also buy a Wilkommen Card (Welcome Card) with museum entry, which will entitle you to free entry into the museums at the lust garten.

“Great location”

The hotel was perfectly placed for the underground and KaDeWe shopping area. Room was clean and quiet. Lots of places to eat nearby for breakfast and dinner ... KaDeWe 6th floor has a great choice and zur Kneipe is a great little pub ...on Rankestrasse within a short walk ... for sausage and sauerkraut. Rooms were very warm (too warm with the thick winter duvet!) even in February. Staff friendly.

Pergamon museum, Berlin Philarmonic, Ka DeWe, and walking around Brandenburg gate / Unter den Linden; Wannsee in the autumn for the colours

Getting around

The underground / s-bahn is so easy even from the airport to the hotel. Work out where you want to go as there are lots of offers if you plan to jet around the city over several days. It felt safe and comfortable with a security presence but not overtly so.

“Excellent hotel near Ka De We in Berlin”

Very clean and quiet hotel. Efficient space, but would be considered small by most Americans. Extremely courteous staff; good food and excellent location. Near the main shopping area (KaDeWe) and others. Walk to the U and S Bahn and buses. A convenience store 1 block away - cash machines and a few restaurants right near the hotel. The neighborhood seemed to be very safe. Would definitely stay there again.

“Nice hotel; great value and location”

Location is excellent on a quiet street only two blocks from all the busyness near KaDeWe. Therefore no rooms have street noise (a common problem). Just walk two blocks and you're right in the middle of the busy area. An underground stop is ~150 meters from the hotel door. Consistent service and a great value since I've been staying there over the past 5 years. There's a sauna and well-equipped gym on the top floor. Rooms are well-equipped, but if you require a gigantic American-sized room, then pay the extra $$ for the Marriott.

“Great Location”

Overall I was satisfied with the hotel, the delay in check in was a shame and no air conditioning.

Area recommendations

Charlottenburg is a nice area but quite dead on an evening, Friedrichshan has a better night life but is not a great area.
