“Too many stairs to climb”
The hotel is comprised of 3 structures the central one of which is old but gracious. Its location is perfect. Our room was in one of the wings and getting to it required negotiating a labyrinth of narrow corridors and several flights of stairs. The staff were excellent. The room was extremely small, well maintained, and clean.
“Sir Christopher Wren Hotel Experience”
Staff were not particulary helpful or friendly and did not acknowledge us when we came and went to and from the hotel. The bathroom was quite nice but the beds had apparently been recently upgraded and were very uncomfortable and so too were the pillows. Not what I would have expected from a four start hotel. Although the room was overlooking a busy pedestrian walkway, the room was reasonably quiet. The location is splendid, right on the River Thames and steps away from the wonderful Windsor Castle.
“Might be better after renovation”
The riverside location is briliant for shopping/exploring Windsor city centre and the service from the staff was excellent. Currently being refurbished which is long overdue- bedrooms are scruffy with stained carpets/curtains, repaired cracks and chips in the bath and tatty, 2nd hand shop type furniture. Old TV with poor fuzzy picture almost impossible to watch. A pity the leisure facilities were not open later on Saturday evening or earlier Sunday morning. Fortunately didn't take a car - parking looks a nightmare. Overall not particularly comfortable and certainly not worth the money at the moment. I would not stay there again until the refurshments are complete.
“not impressed”
check in was supposed to be 3pm but we did not get into our room until0340pm.The room was tiny, looked straight onto the carpark and was v noisy,we asked to be moved as we had booked to stay for 5 nights but no other room available for 2 days.
“Would NOT Recommend”
I was shocked, for the first time in my travels I was speechless upon entering the room! I thought I was in the servants quarters if I could say such a thing! The room was so small and the decor a disgrace, wallpaper peeling, grubby looking, stained carpets, horrible mattress, the oldest TV I have ever seen and 5 channels - just a shocking disgrace for a so called 4 start hotel! The view I got was overlooking the garbage bins and a parking lot! Had to listen to the garbage bins being loaded and moved around until 11pm and then some kind of delivery or staff finishing their shift outside, and then on top of that had the pleasure of listening to loud shouting, laughing from persons leaving the local pubs and entering the car park that went on until 3.30am. The hotel hallways were shabby and the carpets all old and stained, dirty towels from the rooms left lying at various areas along the passage. Whilst I appreciate that the hotel is old and keeping the old Victorian look; however I have been to many other hotels in UK, Ireland and Europe and they achieve this look with clean new carpets, clean upholstered fabric chairs etc. for that era. I would definately NOT recommend this hotel if you are looking for a true "4 Star"! Try the "Oakley Hotel" in the same area, it is by far more superior and such beautiful grounds and lovely large beautfully decorated rooms and common areas and only 5-10 minutes drive from Windsor.
“Character Hotel”
Convenient location round the corner from the Windsor & Eton Riverside Train Station and next to river. Character hotel and I had a nicely decorated room. Gym shut at 18:00 on a Sunday, so didn't have enough time to visit.
“Very old-fashioned hotel full of carpet and long narrow corridors”
The TV only had 5 channels, antique furniture in need of restoration, too many narrow twisting corridors covered in carpet and too much carpet generally. I didn't like it and I think it is overpriced.
“Perfect if you like dirt”
I though this would be a charming hotel to take me girlfriend to, but don't be fooled by its stately facade or elegant reception. After touring through an extensive labarinth of dirty floors and grubby doors, we found our room in a similar state with stained and worn carpets and a bed we could feel the springs through. Shame....
“Looking forward to going back”
The location is great for anyone who enjoys a short walk to both the towns of Windsor and Eton. Be sure to request a riverfront room- the view is well worth it. I would stay there any time I am in Windsor.
“Historic Sir Christopher Wren”
This hotel has some of the features of old age like creaking floors and noise from in and out side the hotel. That is part of the charm of staying in a histoic house. We just purposely didn't try to go to bed early. It was hot when we were there, and of course, there is no air conditioning. The staff brought us a fan and that really helped the sleep for the second night. We were in #1. No view. They said you have to reserve those rooms months in advance. Of course, they cost a lot more too. The room was charming, not large but fine. The bathroom was nice with a good shower. Everything was clean. The location was fabulous. Walk out the front door and to the left is the bridge over the Thames to Eton. To the right, walk a ways up the hill to Windsor Castle. Many restaurants and shops just outside the door. It was great.
