“Ain't the Hampton Inn”

Hotels in Europe are expensive, they are even more expensive in Norway. I was very disappointed in this hotel. I had not stayed at a Thon before, but thought they had a good reputation. Big and small problems with this hotel. First, it didn't have a ramp at the entrance, you have to carry you bags up a few steps. The biggest problem was the bed, it sagged in the center when my wife and I laid in it. The maid did not do a very good job of cleaning the bathroom. I also had to go and ask her to replace the body soap dispenser in the shower. The door handle to the bathroom was falling off due to loose screws. ALSO, BE AWARE, THERE IS A NIGHT CLUB IN THE HOTEL THE OPERATES FROM 10 PM TO 3 AM ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS. THE SUBWOOFER RESONATES THROUGH OUT THE HOTEL! This $$$ hotel should be completely remodeled or sold to a new brand willing to put some money into it.

“Just Conveniently Located”

Very good location: one block from Bryggen. Very good breakfast, friendly staff. Room needs to be refurbished; carpet needs to be replaced. Parking garage across the street but very expensive: 200 NKK per night!!!!! Probably the most expensive overnight parking in the galaxy!!!!!!

“small. cramped, smelly rooms with no room for luggage”

After a first extremely unpleasant night in a smoking room which made us both sick during the night and the next day (they were unable to give us a non-smoking room even though we had requested one), we were transfered to a non-smoking room on the top floor. It was such a tiny room that there was no room for any luggage. The ceiling was slanted; fortunately, we are short ,but still managed to bang our heads on the ceiling a few times. The bathroom floor was also slanted and the shower was not separated from the rest of the floor so that the whole bathroom flooded when one showered.

“Less Expensive But You Get What You Pay For”

We knew the Thon hotels are "no frills" but we were disappointed in the general upkeep and cleanliness. For example, I wanted to use the electric teapot but the top of it was filthy. And the hair dryer had been repaired once with a lot of duct tape and was pulled apart again, so it did not work. Beds were "OK" but nothing to write home about. The location was close to attractions but across the street from a parking garage with graffiti on it (although next to the parking garage there was a fairly nice-looking Asian "noodle" restaurant, and the location wasn't really noisy). I will say that the front desk staff was quite nice and the breakfast was very good. There are no "bargains" in Norway for American tourists, but this hotel is an option to save a little money. But you pretty much get what you pay for and I do wish they would put a little more effort into cleaning and maintenance.

“Great Location”

This hotel is in a fantastic location. The rooms were average and comfortable. What I expected from a 3 star hotel. As with most hotels in Norway, the breakfast was great and plentiful. The biggest surprise was the light dinner that was served on weekdays and included in the price of our hotel room. Considering the high cost of food in Norway, this was a real break and the dinner was very nice.

“Great location but sub standard accomodation.”

A great location with very good breakfasts and light evening meal(except Fridaty, Sat and sunday) included in the price. The hotel is aging rapidly and needs basic maintenance. The rooms are just adequate in size but the beds are not up to standard and the furniture needs replacing. The cooling / heating is basic to be generous. This hotel does not deserve a 4 star rating by any standard. I suggest that it be reviewed again and would say 3 stars would be a fair assessment. Norwegian prices are very high but I would not recommend this place to anyone. We stayed at a number of Norwegian hotels in the 4 star category and all were well above this place in standard and with similar pricing.

“I will stay there again”

The food in the morning was terrific, the hotel staff was knowledgeable and accomodating. The only issue was the walls of the room were bare. They are in the process of redoing the hotel.

“Excellent but expensive”

Check in was quick and receptionist was excellent. Excellent location for sight seeing.

“Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz à Bergen - charmant”

Nous avons été agréablement surpris de l'emplacement de l'Hôtel. Les chambres sont spacieuses avec toutes les comodités. Le déjeuner buffet est très complet et très pratique. Un ordinateur est à notre disposition.
