“Could be better”

On a positive note, the hotel is very centrally located being only a few minutes’ walk to the centre. All Norwegian hotels are expensive however this was poor value for money. Everything was a wee bit grubby, not dirty or grimy but it felt like it could have done with a good scrub. The staff were not particularly friendly or helpful: The electronic key was cut off before the end of the stay. We were told that breakfast was available until 10:30, what they didn’t tell us was that was weekends only so turning up at 10:15 on Monday morning meant there was nothing left - not even an apology. The "prize-winning gourmet restaurant" which was one of the attractions, wasn’t open. It did say it was closed in July however we were there in August. The alternative bistro restaurant had a poor, limited choice (three for each course) and was largely of the fish/meat and two veg variety. They did provide a freshly baked gluten free loaf which was appreciated. The buffet breakfast was uninspiring and much of what should have been available was not, necessitating constant requests to staff to provide things that had run out such as butter, coffee, orange juice, cutlery etc. and usually involved a lengthy wait, just poor service. The hotel was chosen as it was part of a small group and appeared to be at the upper end of the market. There are a number of other, far better choices available, stay here only if everywhere else is full.
