“Very happy!”
I really enjoyed this hotel. Shabby chik - loved it! Built in the 1920`s with plenty of wood. Tea and coffee in the lounge takes getting use to but was lovely. Breakfast was amazing - salad, fish, cheeses, hams, cereals etc. Not just a continental breakfast. Staff were really helpful. Ironing shirts for a wedding no problem for us. Did not want to come home! Matress was firm, and did'nt feel like it had been there 20 years! We asked that they provide a 3rd bed for aour son and it was all set up when we arrived.
“Good location for sights and public transport”
This is like stepping back to the old railway hotels with modern day comforts. The hot tub and sauna are good place to unwind if a little dated. The Piano bar is a nice place for a night cap and the hot breakfast has very good selection. We upgraded to a suite for 2nd night which was huge.
“Quirky but Nice”
One of the biggest rooms I have stayed in....quite simply massive..... and furnished in a kind of period style, consistent with the age and character of the building itself. Another reviewer called it "shabby chic" and that's a good description. The hotel is pretty convenient if arriving by train....which we weren't. We drove, and although the hotel itself doesn't have a car park, there is secure parking adjacent and plenty of space out front of the hotel to unload cases before parking up. And whilst it isn't as central a some other hotels, the Grand Terminus is only a short, 10 minute walk from the focal point of Bergen - Bryggen. We were only staying one night before taking the Hurtigruten ferry up to Alesund - the Grand Terminus was a nice enough stay, with comfortable beds and a big breakfast buffet to set us on our way.
“Nice architecture”
The hotel is in beautiful old building. Very convenient for the station, but a little bit away from the rest of town. Service was okay, but nothing special and the wireless internet kept cutting out.
“What a dump”
On arrival we were given the smallest twin room I have ever seen in my life----the cabins on a ferry are larger. On complaining we were moved to a larger room which was furnished with junk- store furnishings. This hotel has cynically exploited the criteria for becoming a "four star" by having a hairdryer and minibar but ignoring everything that really makes a hotel worth staying in. This hotel rates one star at most
