“good very convenient”
Convenient accomodation
“Great location”
We stayed in Bergamo rather than go to Milan, which was a great choice. The hotel is 5 mins walk from the bus station where you get off the airport bus. The train station is also in the same place. Everywhere is walkable and again the hotel is 10mins walk from the funicolore which takes you up to the old town, the "citta alta". We took a bus to San Pellegrino which was well worth it. Buy the tourist travel card, from the airport, which was 7 euros for 3 days. This gives you transport to and from the airport plus unlimited bus, tram and funiculore travel within Bergamo. A definite one to go back to.
“GOOD VALUE.”
For a short break in Bergamo this was ideal. Spacious accommodation with twin beds. Tea / Coffee in room. Half way between train station and the Funicolare to Citta Alta. Recommend you fly with JET2 from Leeds, and then bus from airport to station. Eat in restaurant at top of funicolare. Lovely.
“Good location”
Good location, close to the train station and bus stops, not far from the funicular.
“Great Location”
The best thing about the Mercure Bergamo Palazzo Dolci probably is its location, just a few minutes walk to the funicular that takes you to Citta Alta. This is particularly true if a traveler plans to spend most of his/her time exploring and dining in Bergamo. The rooms and the hotel common areas were clean and well kept. The hotel is part of a fairly large chain, so the hotel staff members, while professional, do not project the warmth that you usually receive at a smaller hotel or B&B in Italy. Still, they did always try to answer any questions we had (e.g., directions, etc.) and did so competently. The breakfast is expensive for what you get, so we elected to eat at nearby restaurants. We ate all of our dinners in Citta Alta - i.e., where the better restaurants are. Walking to and from the funicular was along popular streets and appeared to be safe for visitors. Parking is at an underground garage, which makes loading and unloading luggage a bit of a challenge. I was not aware of any special features that would earn the hotel a rating of four stars; however, it did meet our needs satisfactorily during the three days we stayed there. The room rate probably was reasonable, given the good location; however, a traveler may need to add in the breakfast and parking charges in order to compare rates to other hotels in the area.
“Excellent location in Bergamo”
Excellent hotel - good location just 200 meteres from railway station and in main shopping district. Good value for money. Easy to find location. Reastaurant/bar not used so can not comment.
“OK hotel”
In a good location, but the rooms are small
“Pleasant hotel for a short stay”
Nice 4 star hotel in a very convenient location. It's just mere 2min walking from a train station where buses from Bergamo airport arrive to. The rooms look quite modern (although colour scheme is veeery brightly painted) and tidy as well the bathroom. The only invonvenience is that when you take shower water spills over and under glass screen and you end up with a miniature lake Como on the floor :) The hotel is next to one of the main roads which leads directly to the centre (lower part, shopping etc-takes about 5-7min and to a funicaral which goes to Alta City (Old Town on the hill)-about 15-20min of relaxed stroll. The only small inconveniences I noticed were-there was no kettle in a room to make hot drinks and the bar appeared to be closed in the evening and no open late shops arround to buy drinks or snack (over weekend). Plus the cost of using a computer (Internet) was quite high as in many cases unfortunatelly. Would recomend a short stay there and the town is certainly worth a visit, particularly City Alta which is a lovelly charming quarter on the hill with many historical sites, charming narrow streets and breathtaking vistas over surrounding area opening at the top! I small discount from Expedia would make it for me to go back again ;)
“It was ok”
Considering the competition, it was fine. As expected, quite bland. Room was big though, and amazing double glazing cut the traffic noise almost completely. It's a short and pleasant walk up to the funicular so that wasn't a problem, and nice to not have to carry bags far from the station.
“Ideally situated for Citta Bassa”
The Mercure Bergamo Palazzo Dolci is ideally situated in the Citta Bassa close to the railway and bus stations and shops. It is clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. As it is part of a chain it doesn't have the character of the Citta Alta hotels but we have returned to it for a second time this year as it serves all of our needs. During our second stay a maintenance guy came fairly late one evening to repair the loo roll holder, which I found a little strange, and one lift was out of action for all of our stay, but overall the hotel is very smart.
