We were asked to move our car three times on arrival in the large, empty carpark as apparently one area was saved for taxis, another for staff and a third for a wedding. Every evening they changed their minds as to which of the empty slots was OK to stay in.
Check-in was poor as we were left in the bar areas without a drink for 20 minutes not knowing what was happening.
The first room we were moved to was next to a fence to a public areas with really loud music playing so we had to ask to be moved.
Food was average at best and, where not included, very overpriced compared to much better restaurants across the island.
Drinks were expensive (150 Rs for 1 litre of water) but it was not permitted to bring your own.
The advertised wi-fi was only in the bar area. It 'worked' about 25% of the time and even then was intermittent and only 0.1Mbps (slow!).
The advertised satellite TV was three local and very poor channels which were unwatchable.
We stayed at hotel Emeraude, Room 202, in June 2014.
We stayed for ten days, and we had friends nearby.
Hotel Emeraude is on the east coast of Mauritius, and is ideally situated for those wishing for the benefit of Mauritian beaches.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with fresh cold drinks by hotel staff, which was nice. I enjoyed the continental breakfasts each day. We chose for half board as we would be seeing our friends quite a lot of the time.
The hotel staff were very friendly, and the manager was frequently on site, and very friendly. The hotel has two swimming pools, a games room with pool, and a great cocktail bar. There is also a spa. The beach is connected to the main belle mare beach, but the section in front of the hotel is for guests only, and is well maintained. We particularly enjoyed the free glass bottom boat and snorkelling trip from the hotel's diving centre; plenty to do.
Our stay coincided with the 2014 world cup, and we watched a few games in the bar, on a large projected screen.
We intend to use this hotel again; the level of quality service we experienced is among the best we gave had.
Making frequent visits to Mauritius to visit family we know the Island well and a variety of Hotels. We chose The Residence for a 'week of total relaxation' and were not disappointed.
As is typical of Mauritius we were greeted with a warm smiles and the best of welcomes.
The ambiance of the Hotel reflects a Colonial past, with an array of historical photographic prints on the walls which give an insight into the countries past, beautiful public spaces and awe inspiring views.
As you walk around the hotel every staff member you meet greets you with a traditional Namaste (palms together in greeting), which adds to the sense of peace and calm.
The facilities are excellent, a lovely pool area, beautifully maintained gardens and excellent restaurants, we particularly enjoyed our visits to 'The Plantation' situated away from the main Hotel in the gardens overlooking the sea.
The Spa facilities were excellent and a must to enhance the overall experience.

I haven't been to Le Saint Géran (LSG) for ten long years since the era of Gerard Sintes who was an extremely charming and capable inn keeper. So last week's visit (just two nights) for a spot of R&R was overdue and I was fearful that it would be a disappointment. I need not have worried! The grande dame of the Indian Ocean was still her civilised and gracious self. The décor, which I gather has been recently refreshed, looks not much different from when LSG was re-opened following her last major refurb in 1999. But the key factor which makes this a truly exceptional property are the hospitality and warmth of its staff, many of whom have been there for years. Now that's a real litmus test of how good a property is!
Wonderful hotel. Large comfortable rooms overlooking palm trees turquoise sea and white sandy beach. Amazing food. Great gym and exercise class and golf facilities. All staff were friendly and helpful. A perfect holiday.

This hotel is exceptionally well priced. Staff is friendly. Our room was neatly done over and flowers were arranged on arrival. Cleaning was done every day. Food was also excellent and well priced.
Can definitely recommend this hotel.
