“Luxurious Feel”

What a great hotel. Location was excellent only a few minutes walk from the new Shopping Mall, and easy access to tourist things e.g. open top bus tours. Breakfast was really nice, and served in a huge hall with lovely features. Cocktail bar had a really extravagent feel about it with good service, and the Piano Bar offered a more relaxed experience. Overall, a really well presented hotel in a great location. Dissapointed we never found time to visit the spa with the rooftop view over the city - maybe next time!!

“Totally recommend”

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. This was a treat for my husbands retirement and what a treat it was. There was a slight gliche in that I was kept awake the first night with an air conditioning vent on the roof however on raising this the on duty manager couldn't have been more helpful sorting the problem for us immediately. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. I would definitely recommend staying here, yes I know it is at the top end of the price range however it is a 5 star hotel but you get what you pay for and this does not disappoint.

Area recommendations
The hotel was extremely well palced for all areas and amenities.

“Words cannot express how lovely the Merchant it is, but we'll try”

As beautiful as the pictures look... it's better. We got a little lost trying to find it, but the concierge guided us there. There's no where to park, but they have valet service (quick and easy, a small charge). The breakfast service seemed a little overwhelmed with the increase in guests the new extension adds (we had to wait all of 8 minutes). Who cares? The hotel is incredible. Yes, it's twice the rate of other more than decent 5 star hotels in the area...it's worth it. If those hotels are 5 stars, the Merchant is a 10 star hotel. It was off-season when we stayed, but the Merchant's rate was half of what some boutiques in the US charge and they don't compare. The staff is the nicest, most prefessional we've ever encountered on our trips to Ireland and the UK. The guest rooms are enormous and very well done. The bathrooms are, well, I'm considering remodeling my bath at home to match it. The public spaces are so well done they are mesmerizing. Compliments to the designers of both the orginal and extension. Unfortunately we were only there for one day and were moving on to another area. We definately would return, and stay much longer. I'd stay until the money ran out. Treat yourself. I don't see how the Merchant could disappoint.

Dining
The Nearby Northern Whig, was a great dining experience. Great food, friendly service, impressive drink list. Try their Eton Mess - an oddly addicting dessert.

“Are you a budding millionaire?”

Sorry to sound a bit of a spoil sport and suggest that the Emperor has no clothes on BUT but quite honestly the Merchant Hotel is living off its own hype. The staff may not have intended to make the guests feel inferior but thats the vibes they gave out - the room are dark and gloomy and not very big. The cocktail bar was expensive with staff who were are best disinterested and at worse offhand. On the up side the breakfast was excellent as were the staff in the dining room - they need to give a few classes to the bar and reception staff on customer service. I have stayed at the Europa and the Malmasion for a whole lot less money - rooms much superior and staff very friendly. Sorry but value for money - pleasant approachable staff and nice rooms mean a lot to me 5 Star it may be but not a 5 star experience.

Area recommendations
cathedral quarter is lively, entertaining and nice to walk around - Victoria centre has beautiful shops.
