I stayed at the North Garden Hotel for five nights in February. I highly recommend this Chinese hotel. This hotel is in an excellent location, off the Wangfujing, behind the large Wangfujing Bookstore and next to the Oriental Plaza Mall. The hotel is ideally located near alot of shops and restaurants. There are alot of great food courts in the area with delicious and cheap food(one on the lower level of the Oriental Plaza Mall and there's another one below the McDonald's across the street from the hotel). There is a subway station minutes away from the hotel (in the lower level of the Mall). You can walk to Tianneman Square in about 10 to 15 minutes or it's one subway stop away. The room is clean and comfortable. The bed is firm but that's the way I like it. The bathroom was nice with lots of hot water and good water pressure. The only thing about this hotel that surprised me is that there were no toiletries. They did provide a bar of soap but if you want toiletries you have to purchase a toiletries pack (toothbrush/paste, shampoo/conditioner, comb, face towel etc) for about 30 RMB. Otherwise, I had a great stay, great location, great price.
Although mainly found Chinese travellers there, I found it great. Staff were very helpful. There was at least one person who could speak in English. They also told me how to get about in the subway when asked. However, if you want to travel to Great Wall, hotel will not arrange a tour bus for you. I hired a taxi because I had one day allocated to go to Great Wall and it suited me. Also, hotel will not arrange airport transfer bus. There are taxis, and I took one, as I had luggage that I cannot carry in the subway. I found Chinese people as helpful people. Some will take a few minutes to show you directions. These seldom happen in a western country. If you know Chinese language, even a little, it will definitely help, as a few can communicate in English.

There are great inexpensive Chinese restaurant near the hotel,
clean, comfortable, personal do not take tips.
There is only problem - the taxi drivers unable to read and speak English and can not find the way to the hotel by address in english, we drove around the block for a long time and finally landed in the 1 km away.
Necessary to take the picture and address of the china characters.
The hotel is quite far from the city centre however, the subway station is directly in front of the hotel (no need to cross the road). Taking the subway is EASY and you can get to practically anywhere with the subway (Subway stations have English translations so easy to find your way around the city.
The best part about my stay in Beijing was the New World Hotel Beijing. I am an avid traveler and my demands are high when it comes to quality. This hotel was nothing short of perfect great location, great food (Buffets) not crowded an awesome roof top bar which had decent traffic flow and the rooms where oversized, very modern and quiet.
If I am ever in Beijing again this is the first reservation I will look to make even before purchasing my ticket.

This hotel was superb and very comfortable indeed.
The staff are very accommodating and helpful especially the concierge services helping to explain to the local taxi drivers where it is I wanted to travel to.
Wonderful oasis in the midst of a hutong. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. They arranged transport to and from the airport and to the Great Wall. I have been to Beijing, but never stayed in a hutong. It made me feel like I was living in ild Beijing. The hutong is an area of contrasts - beautifully restored homes, elaborate front doors, tiny alleyways, and what appeared to be a recycling collector with trash bags full of plastic bottles and bike loads of cardboard. My only complaint is that my stay was too short!
