“NOT IMPRESSED, we were misled by the picture of grandness of the lobby!!”

I agreed with the last 2 reviews, there are better hotels along Wangfujing Road and the nearby vincinity. We booked online into the standard room but were adviced to upgrade upon checking in only to find out the reason why when we entered the room. In our opinion, their executive suite is too small to be named executive, thus the standard room was worst. The lobby was deceivingly impressive on the website but their rooms are old, there are crack lines, dust on the window sills, spider webs on ceiling of the bathroom. It is definitely not worth the price we paid. The card keys are often not working, we have to get it re-programme at least 3 times out of the 8 nights we stayed there. There is no NON SMOKING floor in that hotel, even if you have a non smoking room, you still smell cigerate smokes on the bath towels and sometimes on lift lobby. Their breakfast is lousy, so lousy that we dare not try their restaurants for any meals. Some of the food provided were staled especially the bread and pastries.....slow in replenishing food when they were out. Take the advise, hunt around for other hotels nearby if you insist on staying around or on Wangfujing Road. Totally unimpressed with the room in Wangfujing Grand Hotel. Expedia might want to consider representing them, we felt deceived. Location is good, very convenient.

“Wangfujing is good location , just not good hotel”

There are better hotels in this area at slightly higher prices, that are not run down and provide such distracted service.

Area recommendations
Wangfujing and Sanlitun are best for nightlife, huo hai is best for hutongs

“Unimpressed”

In general the hotel was a decent place for a short term stay with close proximity to many of the historical sites in Beijing - however, there were other hotels in a similar price range with better appeal. The greeters were fairly pleasant and spoke a bit of English when you arrived, they otherwise ignored you upon leaving and entering the hotel - I guess one welcome per check-in is sufficient. As you entered the hotel, the lobby was decent and appeared grand, however that facade was soon lost during the process of checking-in, due to the lack of customer service at the check-in desk. The ladies at the desk were otherwise entertained with their colleagues, cell phones, other activities, and just looked bored out of their mind and really did not appreciate my interruption. The rooms, although clean and tidy, were much less than expected - wallpaper peeling, walls cracking, chipped counter-tops, smelly couches, dirty windows, and lack of any type of a view as promised in the description. The mattress was also like sleeping on the floor, so if you are looking for somewhere to rest your head comfortable, I would recommend Apparently there are 5 restaurants in the hotel - I was not advised at check-in. I did try the cafe in the lobby that offered a buffet style dinner, but this was not enjoyable because everything tasted stale. Wangfujing Grand appears to be a hotel on the decline and its rooms need of much improvement to retain the "Grand" in its name

Area recommendations
My experience has only been in the Wangfujing area, so I would not be able to make a recommendation. But with the close proximity to the Forbidden City, Tianamen Square, National Art History Museum, Financial district, and Olympic Village, the area is one in demand. The area around Olympic village also appears fairly nice, possibly because it is fairly new, but to see the more historic sites, some travel will be required

“nice place to stay”

Location of the hotel is very convenient. There's a message clinic next buliding, a couple of resturants and a nice mall, all within walking distance. Hotel's condition is great with modern decoration. However, the staff could use a lot of training in English.

“Good 3-Star Hotel.”

A good 3-star hotel but definitely not 4-star. Only has buffet dinner, and food generally not good. Bathroom had no showel gel and with only a totally inadequate amount of foam bath instead. Shower curtain stank badly. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location for shopping.

When to go
Early October. Weather warm, dry and not humid.
Getting around
Use taxis. Incredibly cheap. If tempted to use rickshaw, as I was, make sure you fully understand what you will pay at the the end. I asked and was told "30" for two people. This was for a very short journey which would have been 10 Yuan by taxi. At the end, the driver said "no, $30.00 each" which is about 400 Yuan! I gave him the 30 Yuan and walked off leaving him threatening to go to the police.
What to pack
Toilets. Away from your hotel, be prepared to see and smell sights and smells that no human being should be expected to endure. You absolutely must take tissues to use as toilet paper and wet wipes. Plastic gloves would also help. These will help slightly (but only slightly) to reduce the shock and horror of the experience. I kid you not. Don't expect anything better at the major tourist sites. Not for the squeamish or faint-hearted.
Other
Scams. The most common involved seemingly friendly people coming up to you in the street and asking where you come from and if you speak, say, English. They ask if they can walk around with you to help improve their language skills. The result is that you end up at some point paying for an expensive meal or somehting for them. When approached, smile, say "sorry" and quickly walk on. The hard sell. This is relentless everywhere. In shops and stores, keep moving. If you stop for two seconds you will be pounced upon by a very pushy shop assistant. Wave them away and then try to ignore them.

“conveniently located from everywhere in Beijing”

This hotel is along side Wangfujing Business District. It means shops, restauranats, subway stations, hutongs are very much like a walking distance. We really enjoyed the hotel mainly because of the reason and also the staffs are very kind. I will recomend this hotel to my friends if they want to go to Beijing.

“It is a 4-star hotel...”

I was afraid that my room will be dirty (I heard some horror stories from my friends' China trips), but the room was clean. I am happy to say that this hotel is a 4-star hotel and they did provide 4-star hotel's services. I upgraded my room to Luxury level and it was money well spent. My room was roomy, but the level below it was small.

“Easy stay at the Wangfujing Grand Hotel”

Great staff. They spoke some English and were very polite and helpful with everything that I requested. The hotel is a few blocks away from the downtown part of Wangfujing which makes it more peaceful but its close enough that you are not far away from everything. The hotel is very pretty and the rooms are very clean. The staff is very helpful and do their best to assist you with everything you need. I spent four nights in Beijing and it was a great time. I enjoyed my stay and the Wangfujing Grand Hotel and I felt comfortable about leaving my belongings in the room without any hesitation. I strongly suggest this hotel if you are looking for an affordable hotel with a luxury atmosphere.

Area recommendations
Visit Beijing. It is a city that I suggest all to see. The forbidden city (3-4 hours) Tianamen Square (30mins - 1hour), the Temple of Heaven (1 -2 hours), Great Wall of China at Mutianyu ( 5 hours at least). Please go to the markets.

“Executive rooms worth the upgrade”

This hotel was generally very nice. We had three rooms. My in-laws who are not very well traveled were very impressed with everything. My parents who are used to travel in central america thought the facilities were fine, but thought the service here couldn't hold a candle to what they were used to (Note: you have to heavily tip for that service in in the Americas). I thought the rooms were nice and the service was acceptable, especially in the executive lounge. The executive rooms include access to the services of the executive desk, free 4pm checkout, breakfast, and appetizers. If you eat breakfast at the hotel this makes it a very good value to upgrade. A couple of annoying things: you have to wear a swimming cap in the pool so if you don't have on you can purchase one for the high price of 50 RMB each (cash only!). The pool rules seemed to change every time we were there and once when we went the lifeguard was sleeping on the lounge chairs. There are several nice couches set up in the lobby, just don't try to sit on them unless you want to buy a pricey drink from the lobby bar. The pictures online show a couch that I was hoping that one of the kids could crash on. This wasn't in the room but the king size bed turned out to be plenty big enough for me and 2 kids.
